Jimmy Buffett, everyone's fave flip-flop wearing "Margaritaville" crooner, recently shot a music video in a blown-out shell of a tavern in Bay St. Louis, Miss.--but the song isn't an homage to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
According to Bay St. Louis officials, Buffett's video is recreating the effects of Hurricane Ivan when it virtually wiped out the legendary Flora-Bama in Gulf Shores, Ala. in 2004.
.HK Management, the Los Angeles firm that represents Buffett, says the Flora-Bama song and video--called "Bama Breeze"-- is expected to be the first release from Buffett's new album, due out in October.
Here's one fan's account of the video shoot:
The song is a dedication to the destruction of the Flora-Bama Lounge, a popular club in Gulf Shores, Ala. The club suffered heavy damage as a result of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. A song played out-loud during the video shoot described how a bar called the "Bama Breeze" meant so much to the patrons who frequented it.
The song describes Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger stopping in the bar in 1984 and writing his name on the wall of the ladies’ bathroom The chorus of the song being played said, "at the Bama Breeze you are one of us down there, you never drink alone down there, good God, I really feel at home down there."
