I tip my hat to the kid from The Bronx. He was a rae breed, caught inbetween where he wanted to be and where he actually was.
A great talent.

a brilliant singer - up there, with Sinatra, imo.

Recently watched the biopic, with Kevin Spacey.
Not as crap, as i thought it was going to be.

actually I prefer him above Sinatra and a lot other singers in this genre.

Just listen to the song "slew" mentioned or If I were a Carpenter or

He also did a Stones cover "Back Street Girl"

I have to agree with T&A on this one. I like Bobby but you really can't compare him to Sinatra.

I consider the guy on par with Sinatra ... he was probably even more versatile. Great, great singer, that Bobby Darin.

Bobby Darin was a unique artist. He could write, he could play a lot of instruments(guitar, piano, drums, harp, xylophone, etc.)he also was a businessman and also was a guy with concience. He made music in so many styles (jazz, easy listening, folk, rock´n´roll, blues, funk and also rap (and this in 1968!). He also was an actor. But his life is a tragic story but he always did great. I adore him, really.

Firstly, I hate folks who can click with their left hand (see Mack the Knife), I can barely get a thwack with my right & forget the left & what's worse is that Mrs V. can do both, really loud.

Altho I consider him highly I am dissapointed that he ripped off Tim Hardin's arrangement & vocal style for 'If I were a Carpenter', check out the studio versions of both singers to see what I mean

Nice to see some good things written about the great Bobby Darin who, in my opinion, was technically as good as anyone in that particular genre of crooners.

However, although he had tremendous star qualities, he didn't have the background or opportunites with which to develop the kind of larger-than-life personality that Sinatra (or other lesser mortals) could easily build upon on.

i generally can't stand these music/movie bio things - but this one was pretty good. spacey did his own singing, too - and then took his "darin show" on the road for a short tour - missed the chance to get tix in the bay area....but heard the show was good.
