Goodbye Delaney Bramlett

So sorry to report the death of Delaney Bramlett. Along with Keith, he was one of the best rhythm guitarists to ever drive a band. He had a sweet voice that was neither blues nor country, but something all his own. The songs he wrote like "Superstar", "Never Ending Song Of Love", and "Let It Rain" will outlive us all.

This is really sad news.

Delaney and Bonnie were huge and very influential--but their fame was short-lived and once they split they fell out of fashion.

Then their music somehow fell through the cracks and no longer played on the radio, and after awhile they became forgotten.

I am also very angry about this, because D & B were in my top 5 groups of those most deserving to be in the RnR HoF. Like Ronnie Lane, Delaney should have been inducted before he died.

Damn.

Sad News/R.I.P. - one of Rock's great musical teams - DELANEY AND BONNIE (here's a great live version of their most well known song including Eric Clapton and George Harrison in the band)

Great clip.

Not only documents an incredible act live, but also illustrates their significance.

Look at the "Friends" in "Delaney & Bonnie and Friends."

Here's a band so hot that Clapton and Harrison ran away to play with.

That George used for All Things Must Pass.

That Eric turned into Derek and the Dominoes.

It had Jim Price and Bobby on horns--before the Stones used them.

Plus Delaney produced Eric's first solo album that defined his solo "sound."

D & B played a major role in rock music history

Delaney Bramlett was very influential and probably under appreciated for the significance of his contributions to popular music in the late 60's and early 70's.

An excellent songwriter and musician who was an excellent rhythm guitarist. Delaney had an understanding and knowledge of blues music that was ahead of his times in many respects.

Clapton has often credited Delaney with helping him "find his voice" and teaching/giving him confidence to sing on that first solo album.

R.I.P.

Too bad - All of these artists are getting so old its depressing. That's why we should be thankful when the Stones take the stage and stop whining that they are not as good as they were in 72' they can still put on a good show.
