OT Need help with xbox 360 wireless set up

Hi guys, sorry to ask on here ,
I bought my son an official xbox 360 wireless abapter ,so he can use it in his room if he wants, trouble is though the xbox recognises that a signal is there it needs something called SSID , I have no idea what this is and questions to other sites have not helped.
So I was wondering if someone on here has an xbox with wireless adapter and could let me know what it is that my son needs to set this up.
