Would imagine the coins are difficult to get hold of. The telephone a bit easier both both pretty rare.

Those 1899 steel coins are nice items, but not as valuable or collectible as the 1792 bronze coins

Maybe contact Tony Robinson at Time Team? Maybe they can get an archaeological dig in place...

As with everything condition is very important. A mint set of coins (excuse the pun) is worth c.$1,500 and a mint phone (in the box) is worth c.$500. Two of the rarest items of newer merchandise.

I think about 10,000 coin sets were made. They all have a numbered certificate and the highest number I have seen is 5,000 and something so 10,000 seam about right. I am sure there are not this many circulating though. I heard the unsold sets were melted down after the tour given they are each 1 once of silver. Given they probably didn't take credit cards on the merchandise stand in those days it was a big ask to have enough cash on you to buy the set at a concert so they sold very badly hence their now extreme rarity. I have posted this picture before but here you can see the merchandise set (in the case) and a set of proof that were rejected because the heads were too small.

1899 coins?? is this another bill wyman / metal detector thread? winking smiley

actually I remember the coins being advertised on the Howard Stern tv show
during the SW tour. At the time, it was not practical for me to invest
in something like that.....when I buy collectibles i don't buy them with
the thought of re-selling. (i should)

re: phone...I remember see these for sale at Spencer's (novelty store).
I think it was originally priced at $30. Did not buy. (stupid)

I buy lots of collectibles....but some I can rationalize more than others.

IORR............but I like it!
