OT: How was your concert summer 2008?
Posted by: wesley ()

Here`s mine shortly:

Leonard Cohen, well you should know, very memorable experience!

Bruce, even I´m not a die-hard I enjoyed it a lot

Scorpions, Oh let me rest my case.. anyway good sound and mix..

Neil Young, 10+

Deep Purple, good, but not excellent. Btw. I´m going to travel to a little village is near Montreux, where Purple recorded Machine Head in RS Mobile Recording Unit in the end of 1971, very useful information.. Isn´t it?

We did pay a visit to REM, too. It was a cold rainy evening and my wife had a flew, so a quick look.. Anyway, it wasn´t that bad (I had no big expectations, though)

You can share your concert summer with us here, if you please.

All told, it was pretty good: Raconteurs, REM and Modest Mouse, Plant/Krauss, Pearl Jam, Stooges, Radiohead, Springsteen, My Morning Jacket, and Motorhead. None of those five gigs in four cities in six nights streaks, but a lot of good live music.

The Springsteen show stood out. The E Street Band is so road-tested at this point that Bruce essentially has the audience playing Stump The Band. He plays requests that the people up front submit on signs. And these are not the obvious songs that people are requesting, e.g., rarely played album tracks, B-sides, obscure covers that they haven't done since the '70s. But the band was up to the challenge consistently.

And then, of course, there's the Stooges. It's pretty much the same show they've done for five years, but it's such a good set and they just get better at it.

Pearl Jam in Tampa, MSG I, MSG II, Hartford, Mansfield I, Mansfield II, Vedder Solo Boston I, Vedder Solo Boston II, Vedder Solo Montreal. Its like a vacation every summer for me to go see PJ; following that band is kinda like the Grateful Dead of old . . . but now i have money and i fly instead of drive!

Saw Heart in Toronto with Journey/Cheap Trick. Of course Heart were the best, I'm not really thrilled with Journey's new singer. They should call it a day! Heart kicked ass that night.

You can say that again! Saw them in Feb., wish I hadn't.

I've been laying low most of this summer.
Perhaps I'll do more next year.

Edit: Almost forgot, although technically in Spring, saw the Raconteurs and many others at the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

P.J. Proby
Mike Pender
Brian Poole
Chris Farlowe
Marmalade
The Fortunes
Johnny Leyton
Vanity Fayre
David Essex

I didn't pay to see any of these, as I work at a theatre where these all appeared. P.J. Proby was the most memorable (not least for staying in the car park for 5 days!).

The only ticket I've bought this summer is for a musical of 'The Witches of Eastwick' starring Marti Pellow (who was surprisingly excellent).

Plant with Krauss and Waddy every Monday night with His Band and Stones friend's. By the way sorry all Zep Fan's, it aint going to happen talked to Plant backstage and he said it was to much to deal with, and i thoght he meant all of the insurances aand all the bs that comes with it but my friend said no, it's to much to live up to every night. From what i'm reading it sounds like i was right and he's flustered about all the paper work, which is weird knowing they have many assistences. O'well maybe he know's he can't pull it, but then again i had some heavy Zep fan's at the 02 and they seem to think Page would'nt be able to pull it, his sound was way to gainy from what i heard,so that means he don't got it anymore.
