I really cannot believe this is an issue, I was at the show and not for a second did I worry about who was in the first 3 rows. .

Well, if you were lucky enough to get in, thats sort of understandable...then again, had you been shut out ....

I feel sorry for those that worry about who's in the front rows of a concert perfomance. In the Stones in 2006, I for one am just excited that they are still performing. No, it's not the 60's or 70's anymore but they still rocks my socks off.

Same when the movie came out I enjoyed it for what it was, a piece of the Stones 2006 era. Long live the Stones.

That sounds good to me .
Actually ,if I had been /was able to be there , I wouldn't had cared about the chicks on front row too ....

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

- Why was Ian Stewart never an "official" member of the band?
- Who was the audience in "The Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus"?
- "Stones In The Park", documentary or a very special stage production?
- "Gimme Shelter", Hells Angles etc?
- "CS-Blues", a real documentary ... ?
- "L&G" with very spezial sound effects, only made for this movie
- "Rocks Off" / "Let's Spend The Night Together" with very special cuts
- "At The Max", rebuild Steel Wheel stage (different places) between Urban Jungle tour concerts
- "Voodoo Lounge" very special announcement and guests
- "Stripped" in studio
- "Bridges" very spezial show with guests
- "Four Flicks" """
- "Biggest Bang" """
- "Shine A Light" """
and have a look at the "Rarities" cover pic ...

I can't remember any complete show or a documented "standard"-show by the Rolling Stones, all documentaries, movies and discs are especially "made" events.

And people with a little negative vibration will claime it all as some fake.

But someone will like it, me too ... cool smiley

On with the show ... !

After reading the article, I can't help but think that the girl was a legit fan looking for a way to attend a show she sincerely wanted to see. She was "frantically searching craigslist for tickets to the Rolling Stones concert that would take place a day later". I don't think there is anything wrong with this. What stands out as wrong to me is this:

1. Feeling adventurous or not, what the hell is she doing responding to an ad placed by an “older man” looking for a “woman aged 25 or younger” to attend the concert as his date? I'm sorry, but both sides of that equation are just creepy.

2. If the people they ended up picking ranged in age from young hipsters to aging hippies, why did they feel the need to pad the audience to begin with? It seems completely unnecessary. Based on this girl's interest, I think plenty of "cool" looking people would have showed up anyways, regardless of the age of the Stones. When you look at the film, the people in the balcony don't appear to look noticeably different from those by the stage. Why couldn't they have just used the people who showed up, there really doesn't seem to be a difference.

Do the Stones really think so little of their fans?

YES.

I guess they just didn't want an embarassing reprise of the filmed audience members in Gimme Shelter...who can forget the terminally ugly topless girl and the grotesque nude obese man cavorting in the audience?

But they could have controlled for that, simply by allocating certain seats to the fans who turned up. Surely some of them would have been front row-worthy.

Of course they could have.

My looks may not have "qualified" for front row status, but out of 2500, certainly they could have found some "front row worthy people."
But as a result of the policy they instituted, many genuine fans were shut out.

I wouldnt say it 'worries' me or keeps me awake at night - as I wouldnt have been going anyway - but the thread was worth commenting on, as, like me, you have done.

Point being that its all very well to have that 'so f**kin' what?' mentality if you were lucky enough to get in. Had you just missed out on getting a ticket and then found out that about 100 or so tickets in the first couple of rows had been given out to 'extras' chosen purely for their youth and appearance who had quite clearly little or no interest in the band I doubt you'd have still felt the same way.

Its phoney and contrived - simple as that.

Gazza's right! Being shut out left a really bad taste in my mouth, BUT if I had been one of the lucky few who got IN, I'd be singing a different tune. I saw some of the folks in the first few rows and they weren't all beautiful people. I guess they had to pick some normal looking people or it would have REALLY looked fake!! And you're right too, Edith. A great many of US real fans were left out and I can assure you, my excitement would have been real!

We can agree to disagree on this, it didn't matter if I got in or out, it was a movie thus everyone knew there were to be paid extras down front. I'm simply stating that when I saw the movie and watched the dvd, the people in front didn't even enter into my mind, I'm watching the band, the place could have be empty for all I cared. Some folks are never happy, some of those that got in complained about sight lines, set list and audio quality etc. They were not going to be happy no matter what.

Perhaps if you were working on the project you would have known, but I can assure you that many people here are rather pissed off after going through the motions and not getting tickets, only to find out later that this happened.

I imagine most of us here have been rattle-snaked, hospitality-lounged, and back-rowed a few times.

It's just that the Stones never factored into it.

I didn't have any possibility of being at the shows, so this isn't a matter of personal grievance to me on that score. If I had been able to attend, it's possible that I might have been chosen, as despite not being young, I am still fairly photogenic and have great concert clothes.

But I will always remember this event as a rejection of the fans. They think they don't need us anymore; they have gotten what they wanted from us.

There were no more than 100 extras, the place was small, tickets went to celebs. It was a miracle for anyone to get in. It was common knowledge before tickets went on sale that these extras would be down front, so it's time to move on.

my problem with her account is that, as I recall, the people in the orchestra were hand selected (many thru Shidoobee) and had to be available for three days of shooting--both shows and the day after for re-shoots (which was ultimately cancelled)--to ensure "continuity." So how could she have been picked by Scorcese in between the two shows??

I was up in the balcony for the second show was just glad to be inside, but being on the floor would have been incredible. One thing that surprised me is the couple of time i pointed my binoculars on the girls inthe front row, i noticed many of them singing along, which shocked me. Maybe they were told to study some lyrics in advance?!

I saw a bunch singing along too, granted they played some hits that everyone knows. But I suppose it's the way people automatically assume that models are air-heads because they're beautiful. I'm sure many of them are, but there's a whole lotta uglies that are just as dumb.

We're just jealous that we weren't picked, I know I wasn't and that was a blow to the ol' ego, but what can you do, I'm not 20 anymore. Anyhow, it would have been awesome if they could have just given the tickets to us hardcores - the people that live and die Stones. Oh well, no one said the world was fair.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

stones fans are the most bizarre of any kind i've ever seen.its almost like they enjoy the abuse.after each" crap on your fans,AGAIN" incident some of the people actually are down on themselves.
"well,im not that young anymore" " guess i shouldve worked harder, couldve afforded those tickets" "guess we're just jealous"...or they turn on each other-"i've got the money, too bad for you.truth is the stones arent that good anymore.it started going down hill when i saw them get completely and i mean utterly destroyed by ac/dc in toronto.any band that has had their heads handed to them that bad should be thankful to their loyal fans.

ac /dc are a far bigger act, their last disc sold 800,000 the first week it was released and went 2x platinum.did bigger bang make to 300,000 yet?tickets on the black ice tour topped out at $90.yeah they couldnt charge more or nobody would show up right?keep telling yourself that.

U2-dont get me started.before the "u2 sucks, bono sucks' gradeschool comments start, ask yorself-do you think they sell as many records as the stones, concert tickets?do you think they treat their fans better?
now go scrape up the money to buy that super-size exile package with the new songs and the t-shirt for $175 -dont have the money?what a loser.

I love Shine A Light - it's certainly their best product post 2000. I don't really care if it's got Bimbos in it. If I had to gripe about anything I'd say they should have filmed it in London - their home town.
