LSTNT Movie

For those of us that either don't have it on a DVD boot or anything but do have VH1:

Let's Spend the Night Together Airs Sunday, August 17 at 6PM ET/PT One of the most pivotal rock groups of the century the Rolling Stone's 1983 film Lets Spend the Night Together captures footage of several outdoor and in door concerts during the groups 1981 North American Tour. Concert film is interspersed with behind- the-scenes footage along with some of the Stones' classics including, '(Can't Get No) Satisfaction', 'Honky Tonk Woman', 'T&A' and 'Jumping Jack Flash'.

I don't have VH1 or a bootleg. Is it even out officially on DVD? I haven't seen it in eons.

Hey skip, surprisingly released in the benelux countries in 2006 by Universal,
I bought it recently because the version I got before came of some obscure
brazilian sources with a quality in sound and picture,hm...,better than nothing but
not really convincing.

So does that mean - what does that mean? It's out but just not in the States?

I wish it was. I mean, to be able to go out and get it.

No no - if it's not gonna work in the States then why bother getting it? That's what I mean.

Sorry, I should have stated I'm in the UK but it's easy to obtain an official DVD release on the Studio/Canal label (Belgian or Dutch I think). It's constantly on the UK E-bay site for around five pounds.

OK - the region code problem ? When I stated this concerning the SAL DVD I got the advice to unlock my player,I tried but couldn´t find, gave up and then :
believe it or not I realized that my player NEVER has been locked because without
paying attention I watched a dvd with region 1 code.
By the way : I will wait until the European release of SAL....

So now LSTNT : The benelux version has region code 2 and 4 ( ? , don´t know which region is connected to that ) so if your player is unlocked : no problem,if not:
unlock it,and if it doesn´t work :
then you really have to wait ( can´t believe there is no official release in the states) or get the strange brazilian version with funny subtitles : the band
introduction is somehow a comedy...

My DVD player cost about $35 at fookin' K-Mart. I'm sure it doesn't know shit.

I'll just stick with youtube for now. But one day I do want to get the movie.

This movie was my introduction to The Rolling Stones. I remember seeing a trailer during a Saturday Night Live episode. I had to go see it and was mesmerized when I went with my best friend the next weekend. They were so cool. They still are. Long live the GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD!!!

In my experience, the cheaper the player the more versatile it is. I got a 'Pacific' here in the UK a couple of years back, a sub-£30 player from ASDA stores, & it can play anything I throw at it (unlike my more expensive JVC & Hitachi's!).

The Japanese official DVD release is still available I think.
If your DVD player is OK with NTSC get it! It's tremendous eye-popping picture quality and sound.........

Thanks for this! thumbs up

I only have a DVD I made myself by transferring the VHS release, so it'll be nice to have an upgrade.

Question: do any of the official DVDs include 'When The Whip Comes Down'? I know this was on some edits.

When the Whip Comes Down is on the version of the film called Rocks Off.

Which presumably has never been released officially on video or DVD?

Hey adotulipson,I can recommend the official release strongly, because it´s really
an improvement compared to the brazilian version.
I´m really not a high tech sound and picture addict, but IMO the brazilian one is a
( not bad ) transfer from the VHS tape and watching the official version is much more fun,for sure !
There are unfortunately no specific extras on it,just a trailer and a picture show, but if you got the oppurtunity-get it,you won´t be dissapointed.

I got my version recently in a record shop in the netherlands, new ,for the price of a very low budget cd,and that´s a good deal.

Sleepy,I just watched the movie ONE time only when it was released in summer 1982
to support the tour somehow, and it really was named "ROCKS OFF".

If I would be clever enough I would post the advertisement of the newspaper...
Maybe I´m learning this sometimes.

Differences beside the unfortunately kicked out WHENTHE...( they really should
have kicked out ALL DOWN THE LINE instead, horrible version of a GREAT song-and
butchering Brown Sugar : one of the lowpoints, really) I can´t tell,it´s too long
ago,if there are any at all.

By the way : if interested in getting it look again in the new VOODOO LOUNGE thread-
What happened ? smiling bouncing smiley

830118A 18th January: New York, Loew’s Astor Theater. First private screening of the movie
‘Let’s Spend The Night Together’.
Differences to ‘Rocks Off’ (see 820813A):
- Neighbours (MJ/KR) -includes backstage footage
- Time Is On My Side (Jerry Ragavoy) -with history-footage
- She’s So Cold (MJ/KR)
Note: The movie lacks ‘When The Whip Comes Down’.

Slight tangent and probably useless facts that most self-respecting Stones fans know but it's never really highlighted that LSTNT was directed by (the late) Hal Ashby. A much vaunted and Oscar-winning director of the time.
Not, admittedly the brand name that Scorsese is but none the less quite a capture.

Film was originally going to be called 'Time Is On My Side'.

This is my original 1982 Danish movie poster...extremely rare!
As you can see...it was actually called "Time Is On Our Side"!
