Ska Trumpet and founder of The Skatallites, Johnny “Dizzy” Moore, has died last Saturday in Kingston, Jamaica, at 70 years old, caused by colon cancer.

Johnny “Dizzy” Moore, trompetista de ska, falleció el sábado 16 de agosto en Kingston (Jamaica), a los 70 años de edad, a causa de un cáncer de colon.

Nacido en Kingston (Jamaica), estudió música en Alpha Boys Schools en St. Andrew. Trabajó como músico de sesión en el Studio One, de Clement “Coxsone” Dodd. Moore se unió a los saxofonistas Tommy McCook y Lester Sterling, el trombonista Don Drummond, el teclista Jackie Mittoo, el guitarrista Jerry Hinds, el bajista Lloyd Brevett, el baterista Lloyd Knibbs y el saxofonista Roland Alphonso para fundar en 1964 The Skatalites, formación que devendría todo un emblema del ska.

Moore acompañó a vocalistas como Bunny Wailer y Lloyd, Matador, Daley. En la actualidad formaba parte de Jamaica All Stars junto con Justin Hinds, Skully Sims, Sparrow Martin, y otros.

Sad news... What a legendary band.. for only being together for about a year they had such a huge impact and influence.. Haven't heard how the Skatalites sounded since they reformed recently but I highly suggest checking out their orginial Studio One release... as well as the Best of Don Drummond... incredible music..

I always love this band, very sad about Dizzy Moore, last years they were touring and they were great!! I saw them in Barcelona, what a great Ska/Reggae band!!
