While I like the John Mayer Trio quite a bit, I totally get where you are coming from, Boogie1969. He is not all that genuine, but a decent interpreter and, yes, a bit of a prick.

More important, you've actually listened to it and have some sound reasons as to why it is not to your liking. Unlike Skippy who apparently hasn't heard the trio but adamantly craps on it in his posts. I don't get that.

I cannot believe some of the positive comments about John Mayer's music here. I guess its sort of in the same ballpark as Mick's solo stuff, which I'd still prefer over Mayer's music. I went to high school in Connecticut with John and he was nothing but a Dave Matthews cover band but says he is all about the blues. The kid's ego was so big in high school he went to the prom alone cause no girl in Fairfield was worthy of him. I am actually close friends with his two best (and only) friends and they have a hard time saying anything good about him still do this day.

Hey...I didn't realize X-pensive Wino drummer Steve Jordan was part of the John Mayer Trio.

Can we conclude that with SJ on the road...the likelihood of Keith
doing a solo project (between Stones work) is slim to none?

Keith uses George Receli for most of his 'solo' work these days.

There's nothing wrong with Mayer; he has morphed into a pretty creative guitarist. With his looks and his commercialism he is always going to appeal to the women too, but who doesn't want that crowd? Jagger jumps through hoops these days to get his built-in audience.
But JM isn;t getting this for free; somewhere he developed some serious chops, put a great band together with Pino, Steve Jordan, David Ryan Harris on second guitar.

if it's any consolation....RS's Honky Tonk Women was among the songs
on his pre-show intermission tape...or whatever...you know, the music they blast through
the arena while the roadies are prepping the instruments & stage etc..

his opening act was a guy named Michael Franti.

cool, I'm a fan of Franti.
