A funny thing happened on the way to the Stones show......

Half the fun is getting there and back, do you have any great funny Stones travel stories?

Part 1 - My girlfriend and I are in the hotel elevator heading to the NA closer of BB in Vancouver. An old woman (80’s) escorted by a woman in her sixties gets on the elevator. My girlfriend asks “are you going to Rolling Stones concert”. The old woman replies no but then adds “tell Mick Liddia says hi, he’ll remember me”…..cracked up the whole elevator.
Part 2 – One thing I know about the girl friend is we can work off one joke for months. The next morning, lying in the hotel bed we pick up on the unmistakable sounds of the couple next door making out. There is this pitiful 15 seconds of activity on the other side of the wall with a pitiful exhaust of breath (all his). Normally we would have liked to put on a noisy show ourselves just to show them how it’s done (as Walter Brennen used to say…no brag, just fact) but I was seriously hungover, so I needed to do something to embarrass the folks next door and it had to be fast. A split second after that pitiful last breath I state “looks like Mick caught up with Liddia” at which point the girlfriend burst into very loud laughter. I still chuckle thinking of the couple on the other side and the encore of laughter they must have heard.

I’m cruising through the back poorly lit parking lot for the Tacoma Dome for the Licks tour. In the almost pitch black we pick up on two Tacoma cops standing in the dark at the open trunk of their cruiser as they adjusted their flack jackets and checked their Glocks for one in the chamber (it was the US after all). Our path will take us right behind them so as I pass behind them I lean in between them in the pitch dark as if I don’t see who they are and put my head in the trunk and state “is this where you get the bootleg Tee shirts”, I pull my head out of the trunk and start to walk away as one trooper chuckles then the other voice in the dark says “you do and it’ll be the last F*#K’in tee shirt you ever buy”. Just no sense of Canuck humour.

Last but not least, I’m looking for a Shiddobee after party in the hotel next to the Tacoma Dome. Now I had been to the room before the show but now I was wasted. I knew the floor and a jist of the direction I took back to the elevator when I left before the show. Returning wasted, I make the correct turn down the hall, reach a familiar spot in the hall, but was it the door on the right or left, I go right and knock. A guy answers the door in his boxers holding a beer, but of more note are the two fully clothed ladies in 4” heals and Mink coats. “Is your name Bob” he slurs. “no it’s not” I reply. “To bad” he says “we’re waiting for Bob, you can come in if you like if you have a big c*#k, that’s why we are waiting for Bob, but we can start now if you have a big one”. I excused myself (not for the reason your thinking, I would have gone for it anyway) and said I believe I was looking for the party across the hall. I left because they looked like they cost him way more than the concert tickets, no way they were with this idiot.

Come on, I'm bored...there must be some real great laughs out there!

One of my funniest moments was my second Stones show at Foxboro in 1989. i had terrible seats very far up. i noticed some people found a bit of chain link fence and were going underneath. It led you to the bleacher loge seats. So me and my friend ran in too. We climb up into the stands, like a bunch of rats and as luck would have it, right at the exact seats of the Executive Vice President of my company. I was really embarrassed!

thanks soundcheck. I think he was secretly impressed.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

we go to atlantic city to see the stones driving in a terrible rain storm that took us forever, the date was 10/27/06 friday night i am totally ready to rock and roll and just go wild we get to the hotel on the boardwalk about 6:00pm to check in so iam standing in the lobby of the hotel while my friend goes to the front desk to check us in, so my friend comes up to me and says no stones show (micks voice hurt i.e. saving it for the beacon shows for sal),i turned and said to him dont f@#$ with me so he says okay, so then we are going up in the elevator and a couple of old couples get on the elevator on a couple of the floors that we were stopping on and each time we would stop to let more people on they would say to us thats to bad about the stones show being cancelled so i said to my friend looks like you were not joking with me .boy was i pissed so we went to the hard rock for dinner and watched the final game of the 06 world seris when the redbird clinched the seris ,and the next day made the long drive back home one of the longest drives home .boy what shi#$% weekend !!!

I was at one of the Wembley stadium shows in 1995 and we got within a few rows of the front with hours to go until the Stones hit the stage.

It was scorching hot so everyone was sitting down. There was a posh couple behind us with chairs and a picnic hamper and blanket (I kid you not) sitting down eating a picnic as if they were in a field or on a beach-not to see the worlds greatest....

Anyway, from the reflection in the windows of the VIP boxes up high, I could see that there was a massive surge of people from the back (70,000 people). WE quickly stood up but the posh couple didn't realise until it was too late!!

I guess its just my sick sense of humour but it was funny to see the look on their faces!

This seems like a potentially good topic...but i'm not sure
I have anything interesting to add...

'89 Alpine Valley (East Troy, WI) - Alpine Valley Music Theater
is in a fairly rural part of Wisconsin near Lake Geneva (resort town).
Miles of RS fans in decorated cars streaming in from Milwaukee and Chicago.
A Rolling Stones parade.

'97 Madison (Camp Randall Stadium) - drove up early. Went ring shopping
and got engaged. The diamond WAS a nice (gem)stone....not rolling.
Great seats too!

'99 Milwaukee Bradley Center - before the show, my wife and I were
in section 206 (corner) and we looked down 15 feet between the seating
sections. It was Bobby Keys. He was checking out the structure with
a BC official. We said "hi" and he waved. Ran into Blondie Chaplain and
Larry Bird (NBA Coach - Pacers) at the Pfister Hotel.

'05 Milwaukee Bradley Center -Saw my old boss at the show.
Ugh. I hate that bastard. (Arena is only 8 miles from home...so
there was really no opportunity for anything to happen on the way to the show)

'06 Chicago Soldier Field - Won free Stones tickets. Wife was late getting
home.....raced down to Chicago (from Milwaukee) to witness the "coldest Stones show" and witness
first play of SHE WAS HOT. Missed the opening acts. Arrived at SF parking lot...
..it was like a ghost town. No sign of life. Sprinted toward the stadium
and heard the crowd roaring. Free seats weren't that great...so we moved up a bit.
That was a chilly and surreal night. Cold, windy...and Keith's first cryogenic session. winking smiley

* I've had funnier things happen on the way to Aerosmith shows.

IORR............but I like it!
