OT: Eric Burdon & War last night

Saw these guys at the Albert Hall last night. Phenomenal.

The band played a few numbers to get warmed up without Eric - although the only original member is Lonnie Jordan (keyboards) it really sounded and felt like the War of the early '70's.

Then Eric came on (all 5 ft 3' of him!) and blew the roof off. What a voice! Made Tom Jones sound like a nervous choir boy. They did their epic latin-tinged version of Paint it Black and even pulled out a couple of Animals tunes.

Considering they haven't played together for 37 years this was a stirling performance. Hope they don't wait for another 37 years.

Anyone else lucky enough to have been there?

Wow! sounds amazing!!!!
So what other songs did the do off of Declares War?
And Lee Oskar isn't playing harp with them? That is a disappointment if true, he is one of the best harp players ever.

Yeh - unfortunately the great Lee Oskar wasn't there - but his replacement did an admirable job. Didn't catch his name in the introductions.

They did everything off of 'Declares war' apart from You're no stranger! Vision Of Rassan was especially great.

Eric was interviewed on the Jools Holland show last week. Sadly he didn't perform. Seemed rather subdued (posibly due to the rather naff questions) but he certainly looked in good shape. Like Keith he has never strayed far from his roots. One our best singers - sadly overlooked in many respects. Probably very difficult to manage but there is no doubt his love for the blues remains. Can't they do a full UK tour?

That's a fair point ablett! smiling smiley

Ok - Eric and Lonnie haven't played together (under the guise of War) for 37 years.

Anyway, it was a kick-arse performance.

Thanks for the link Lukester.

I'd like to see Eric, think he's coming soon. Thought I'd like to see him with the remaining members of the Animals.

Eric often is such a great singer. One of those people that anyone who cares about the music will be more than gratified to see.
