Here's one from 22 years ago (1986), Mick still holding on in French - better than 1976 I say...(Keith needs a little more work on his)

First time I was really made aware of it was on the LOVE YOU LIVE album during the PARIS YCAGWYW sing along part (remember, this is ALL pre internet/You Tube - a lot less information floating around) but I assume he learned some in school and then picked it up little by little until they moved to the South of France when he REALLY learned it big time.... I heard his Spanish was also very good during the Bianca Years.....
He has supposedly lived there for over 25 years, although it's fair to say he seems to spend a puzzling amount of time in London if his weekly photos at various events in the media are anything to go by. So it's hardly surprising he's fluent by now, given his talent for picking up languages.
Yeah, I dunno why, but I was so surprised when I heard it I just cracked up laughing. Isn't that somehow cute?

hb, what you say !?!? Bottom one is '86 4 sure, they're talking about the DIRTY WORK ALBUM that had just come out - Remember how long Mick' hair was in the ONE HIT (To The Body) VIDEO ?? Look how young Keith looks, that's not any Keith we know in the 2000's - NO WAY !!

I think most Americans (who manage to learn a second language) tend to take Spanish in school.

his French was all right in the 1960s as well, at least for onstage-type talk.
good old-fashioned UK grammar-school education i guess...
apparently Keith understands it tolerably well too, although his Italian is better :E

that refers to the second clip, which is from 1986.
the first one (the "Mick clip" ) is obviously from later.

I think it just shows Jagger's very good taste that he's a lover (and part time resident) of France (since there's a lot of different things and reasons to love the country for). Sure beats that Rat Bastard Sting who skipped France and got a place in Tuscany instead... now Italy's fine for sure but it's not exactly France.....
