OT: GLOBAL WARMING
Posted by: chavostone ()

Hi there people , maybe you find this thread inappropiate for the forum , but im 14 years old , im member of this forum , im not just coming from any place on the web to "bother" you with this stuff.
Im really worried about this , a hard feeling comes to myself as i write and think about this sad truth.
I wanna try to move you up , take action on it , dont use old things that can make so much co2 , dont use water inapropiately , save electricity , turn off lights or computer when not using them , think about it , i think if we dont take action on these days , we'll be over in a few years , and it doesn't suit me well , wanna live my life in a good way , dont wanna be worried all the time.
we , the humans , we're destroying ourselves , some just dont know , but the most of the world knows , but aint doing anything for it.
I hope God will help us at any all time.
Hope this thread wont be closed by bv , and you read with care the words of a teenager , are you with me ? can we start saving our world? i think we can change , its not impossible , we all can change it , we just have to act NOW.
Its just in our hearts.

Solar panelled satellites could supply all our energy needs. Its a shame to let the initial cost stops us from making this great leap forward. Check it out.

I'm with the Republicans, Global Warming is a myth. Just kidding, but I'm not sure anything will change for the better.

We could use some warmth here up north. I hate winter.

One problem with energy companies (suppliers) advising its customers on conservation is that once people start to show a savings on their bills and recycling, conserving, etc... these same companies turn right around and raise your rates because their revenues have fallen due to customer conservation.

Screw those @#$%&. Our natural gas supplier put out ads and literature in bills about upgrading your furnace to a more energy efficient model. They offered rebates up to $300 to the customers who had these furnaces, boilers, and hot water tanks replaced. Then they went to the Public Utility Commission for a rate increase and in addition to that and other crap they were allowed to surcharge EVERY customer every month to recoup the rebate money paid.

Our Water supplier has raised rates every year (mostly double digit) because their revenues have fallen due to customer conservation. We live next to a great lake (Erie) and we pay some of the highest water rates in the country. Phoenix, Arizona pays less for water than us (Buffalo) and they are built on a desert.

I'm just getting started.

Global warming is real. Just like it has been, along with global cooling for thousands and millions of years.
If the current trend is much to do with us burning oil and coal...then my nephew is that monkey.
The last time we had a similar trend was about a thousand years ago, when there were vinyards in the north of England. By the end of the next five hundred years or so folks were ice skating on the Thames in winter!
Not too many coal fired power stations and internal combustion engines around then.

There's too much information from scientists on political retainers for my liking.
"Global Warming" is a very convenient tool to slow the swing of world industrial power from the west to the east... if the issue can be blown up big enough.
The body of scientific opinion which doesn't put global warming down to man's activity doesn't get a look in...and something not happening isn't news !

What a wonderful excuse for new and higher taxes on everything too ! There are folks who will endure real hardship due to extremes of "green" political thinking over the next couple of decades.

Fosil fuels won't last for ever. New and cleaner energy technologies should and will be developed...but it doesn't have to happen this week and at the expense of one suffering generation !

I'm with spud, I think we are arrogant to think we have caused global warming.

Yes it is happening and I'm sure we are not helping but I do not think we have caused it! But we can help with it but I don't think we can stop it.

Talking about energy suppliers, we British must me stupid. We still have a lot of naturally occuring gas here (yeah yeah not just hot air) the delightful French buy it off us cheap in the summer and then we end up buying it back at a premium in the winter!! WTF! Apparently there is a storage issue over here- we can't store all the gas, so we sell it off cheap!

You also forget that us Brits have 300 years of Coal left and Power stations can be made today that have low carbon?

Nanker Phelge, I think the French are doing just fine being 80% nuclear powered and rated the greenest country in Europe. And they ARE delightful, you are correct nanker, that's why I have an apartment in Paris (even though the very weak US Dollar keeps me from going much lately). Why is it arrogant to think we have caused global warming? Have you ever heard of the Industrial Revolution? In the year 1900 the world population was about 1.5 Billion people. 100 years later it is about 6.5 Billion (1 Billion = 1,000 Million). It is estimated to be 9 billion by the year 2050. A lot of those 6.5 Billion use cars and all kinds of other energy devices that cause major pollution. Humans create toxic waste, that is a fact - the more humans you have the more waste you have. It's simple logic, you don't need to be a scientist or complicate the issue, IT'S SIMPLE LOGIC. You know, when 1,000's of Science Experts start saying the same thing I'm gonna start listening. If you had a lump in your neck and 10 Cancer specialist told you you had cancer would that be enough to convince you? Or would 50 opinions convince you.... I've heard (and seen) enough - we better start caring or we're gonna loose what we have. Shame at 14 Chavostone has to worry about such things, when I was 14 I was worried about getting my girlfriends bra off as quick as possible. That's what 14 yr olds should worry about IMHO.

Isn't "global warming," just a lot of drummed-up hogwash, cobbled together by New-Agey dreamers who have got nothin' better to do all day hug trees, gaze lovingly at pretty flowers and contemplate their navels all day?

I mean surely we are entitled to exploit the planet and extract as much of all the natural resources from it as we can, coz it's ours. All this erosion of the ice caps and atmospheric poisoning hyped baloney is a fantasy conjured up by the same leftie nutters who should be conscripted to the army and forced to make a valued contribution to society.

Natural gas is stored underground in natural caverns etc... So if the British have abundunt supplies then there is no need to sell it off and reaquire it for residential and commercial consumption. All that is required is an efficient pipeline system to transport the commodity from the gas pocket to the distribution network. (The scent is added for safety as it is odorless.)

IMO this is the most abused (commodity traded) natural resource available. Its the companies and traders the absolutely screw residential customers all the time. Some clown predicts 6 hurricanes in the Carribean and the traders run up the price. But no hurricanes of consequence hit and who pays for the artifically inflated prices??? YOU DO. Because all these so called predicted events usually happen after the price is at its lowest and energy suppliers have "restocked inventories" then as peak usage season approaches, all these Nostradamus wanna bees start this cycle of doomsday predictions and any calamity they can conjure up to run up the price so the energy companies can sell their cheap natural gas that they paid practically nothing for to companies they own, that drill and store the fuel, back to the consumer at inflated rates during peak demand season.

This global warming is a bunch of nonsense.

Give it a few more years and there will be another "trendy" hot (sorry) topic.

It is called cyclical events. It has happened before and will happen again

With all the smart posts here I realize there is nothing we can do with global warming on iorr. I assume there are not many penguins here on iorr, or people who care about the ice on Kilimanjaro gone by 2014, so this discussion is closed. PS. We can not save the planet here, and I don't want to see a lot of propaganda posts from people who know nothing about this subject. That is why this discussion is closed.
