Talking about energy suppliers, we British must me stupid. We still have a lot of naturally occuring gas here (yeah yeah not just hot air) the delightful French buy it off us cheap in the summer and then we end up buying it back at a premium in the winter!! WTF! Apparently there is a storage issue over here- we can't store all the gas, so we sell it off cheap!
Natural gas is stored underground in natural caverns etc... So if the British have abundunt supplies then there is no need to sell it off and reaquire it for residential and commercial consumption. All that is required is an efficient pipeline system to transport the commodity from the gas pocket to the distribution network. (The scent is added for safety as it is odorless.)
IMO this is the most abused (commodity traded) natural resource available. Its the companies and traders the absolutely screw residential customers all the time. Some clown predicts 6 hurricanes in the Carribean and the traders run up the price. But no hurricanes of consequence hit and who pays for the artifically inflated prices??? YOU DO. Because all these so called predicted events usually happen after the price is at its lowest and energy suppliers have "restocked inventories" then as peak usage season approaches, all these Nostradamus wanna bees start this cycle of doomsday predictions and any calamity they can conjure up to run up the price so the energy companies can sell their cheap natural gas that they paid practically nothing for to companies they own, that drill and store the fuel, back to the consumer at inflated rates during peak demand season.
