Yesterday jazz legend Sir John Dankworth passed away.
RIP Sir Johnny!

I had the priviledge to attend the last Dutch gig last July, when he and his wife Dame Cleo Laine joined the stage at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Their son Alec played bass. It was an unforgettable event.

A sad loss to Jazz, always came across as a very nice and modest man.

I saw John playing with his son Alec about 10 years ago in a very humble pub room in Stafford (England). Despite the unprepossessing surroundings, he gave a fine performance and was generous in his praise for his son and other band members in equal measure. A sad loss.
