Just heard that he died today after a long illness at the age of 69. Any 1970s Wide World Of Sports fans out there?

Yeah, right here!

I really enjoyed watching Evel's stunts on TV.
I and the other kids in the neighborhood would imitate
Evel by doing our own jumps on our bicycles.
Had a blast doing it and thankful now we didn't kill ourselves!

He was very popular when I was a kid. I remember how excited I was when I got the Evel Knievel motorcycle/ramp toy one year for my birthday.

Unfortunately I tried to emulate him by riding my bycycle off a ramp and ended up battered and bloody.

.. he had an incrediable, amazing life,, everyone should read up his bio, check him out, he gave a lot, many intangiables, one being strenght to many people young and old,,
i recall fondly that jim rome had him on as a guest five or so years ago, , rome's no dummy, , and he is asking knievel why he is jumping that, doing this and that, when ya could be easily killed, etc.. his reply was, "dont you know who i am".
... rome played that over and over for two weeks,, knievel was great, a bonifide classic!

Some crook agent-type robbed Knieval in a book deal, or something, and Knieval tracked him down in an LA studio parking lot and beat the guy up with a baseball bat!!
I dig that!
Take that #$%&sucker!!!

Sad news. Even here in Holland he was famous for his stunts.

I heard somewhere that Evel wanted Elton John to perform Rocket Man just before blast off at the launch site of the Snake River Canyon jump. Elton loves to sing songs for dead blonds, but even he must have thought it would be just too damn weird to go there, sing the song, and then possibly see Evel be blown to pieces a few moments later.

EVEL was so cool. We built ramps out of plywood and jumped our bikes over all kinds of things, including each other just to try to be like him. Yes, we ALWAYS ended up hurt. Sad, but not suprising news. Maxim magazine has an interview with him this month. Probably his last.

I'm a total Jim Rome clone and his interview with EVEL is a classic!
- his reply was, "dont you know who i am". -

RIP brother.
May you be drinking Wild Turkey and hooking up with all the hot women in the sky!

Shocked he lived this long. He had been in failing health for years.

Same here EG. He was real big when I was a kid and I always looked forward to whenever he would do one of his jumps. I would follow everything he did. I remember one time when he was doing a jump at an old arena out here called the Cow Palace. I forget what it was he was jumping, but it was a small arena and he crashed on the landing and broke his ankle. I wasn't there, but they have pictures of it at the arena.
What's the story with himk and Robbie? I know they were on the outs for a while. Did they ever make up? I didn't see any qoutes from Robbie in the story in the paper.
