The Who: New album & acoustic dates
Roger Daltrey says that Pete Townshend is hard at work writing new material for the Who's upcoming album.

Daltrey says that fans probably won't have to wait 24 years between Who albums as they had prior to the release of last year's album Endless Wire: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "At the moment Pete's writing new material. I haven't heard anything. He's told me some of the ideas which sound really intriguing again, and as usual from Pete, it's never dull. It's always these wonderful kind of stories that go along with it. It's always exciting when he talks about where he is and the spaces he's in when he's writing his music. I've always been of the opinion that he will write some of his best work when he's an older man, so I'm still living in hope."

Daltrey says that he and Townshend have been discussing different ways to please hardcore fans who want them to perform more rarities than they have included in their recent arena shows: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "Die-hard Who fans think that six nights at Radio City (Music Hall) playing our obscurer stuff would be a huge success -- it might not. You know, I'd like to do indeed an acoustic set somewhere, you know do 'Imagine A Man,' and maybe do a question and answer thing with an audience. So it's a totally different type of show; 40 minutes and then do a 40 minute chat, question and answer and talk to the audience. It could be a lot of fun and I think it could make a very interesting night out."

So far no dates have been announced for any upcoming Who shows, although Daltrey has said that the band will be touring Japan and probably Australia in the new year. Daltrey said that the show would feature the same layout as the Who's 2006-2007 tour, with the emphasis on Endless Wire material balanced out with the band's classic hits.

Out now on DVD is the Who's definitive documentary called Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who. A bonus DVD featuring 90 minutes of the Who's December 8th, 1979 concert at the Chicago Amphitheatre is exclusively available at Best Buy stores.

Roger Daltrey will perform with Joe Walsh and Jack Bruce as part of the Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp on Sunday (November 11th) in Las Vegas at the House Of Blues.

I wish they would stop call themselves the Who.

Just because 50% of the band members have "changed" over the years?

Let me count: BJ, CW, KR, BW, MJ, plus Mick Taylor and RW and a new bass player.

That makes eight people that have been "main musicians in the Stones" over the years. Brian Jones, Bill Wyman, Mick Taylor, Ronnie and Darryl haven't been in the Stones all the time from the beginning until now.

That's more than 50%!

I wish they would stop calling themselves themselves.

;-)

I know I´m whining. I just think that both Entwistle & Moon were such integral parts of the Who´s sound.

This sort of implies that Daltrey DOESN'T like Endless Wire and hopes that maybe the next one will be good. Forget it. It won't be.

Sounds like they are trying to figure out a way to contine taking our money without having to work too hard in return.

A 40-minute acoustic set followed by a 40-minute chat is REALLY takin' it easy up there. That's not gonna please hardcore fans. That kind of bull shit is gonna infuriate them.

.....then stay at home tatters, please.....personally I would love to be a participant in the 40 minute question and answer thing......you can't "connect" with your audience much better than that.

Well they will have the option to go or not to go, it's that simple!

Radio City holds 6,000 people. They will be taking only a handful of questions from the audience. You want to spend $300 for a one in a thousand chance to ask them a question.

I'd rather stay home and "connect" with my wife.

Maybe that´s the future for us. Our old heroes play a few songs and then sit and talk with the crowd. Drinking tea with biscuits...

Come to think of it, when I saw Muddy Waters in 1981, his band came out and played three songs, then Muddy came out and did three songs with his band, then Muddy left the stage and his band did three more songs without him! That was it! But you know what? I felt very privileged just to have seen him.

Boring is what it will be. I've seen other shows like this. It's a frustrating experience. You will wish they would just shut up and plug in and crank it up. Instead, they will "thrill" you with yet another rendition of Behind Blue Eyes.

Pete Townshend: Keith Moon's death prevented Who renaissance
Pete Townshend says that unlike the Who's 1979 documentary The Kids Are Alright, the band's new film Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who isn't intended to serve as a memorial, but rather a celebration.

Townshend told Uncut, "Remember The Kids Are Alright was made when the Who, Keith (Moon) mainly, felt as though we were finished. He couldn't play. If he had survived his rehab he would have bounced back -- then we would have had a genuine renaissance. As it stands, Kids is his testament."

Townshend went on to say that Moon was an extremely complex character to live and work with and that he's curious how Roger Daltrey will be able to capture Moon's essence in the upcoming Moon biopic set to star Mike Myers: "We loved (Keith) most of the time, but he was infuriating. God only knows how Roger as a producer is going to steer a movie about Keith Moon without softening the truth. It certainly wasn't all comedy, but when it was comedy, it was the highest quality. This wasn't Spinal Tap, this was Monty Python."

The upcoming Moon biopic called See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked For Your Pleasure, is expected to begin shooting early next year.

Townshend spoke about the new Amazing Journey documentary, and has said that for once he's glad that filmmakers haven't focused squarely on his talent and Moon's antics to tell the Who's story: "This is Roger's story of the Who, and I believe for the first time he is able to tell it in his own way, and it seems the directors have properly favored him, at last, with plenty of air time."

Townshend has never felt the personal need for a filmmaker to chronicle his life and career, feeling that that his unique relationship with the rock press over the years has allowed him to talk about and discuss his music in an immediate fashion: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "I saw journalists as my friends, artists, as creatives, and researchers -- and fellows on the creative pathway. Partly because I know that every writer is a writer. Every writer with a small 'w' is a writer with a big 'w' and I'm a writer."

The two disc Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who DVD is available now. An additional bonus disc, featuring 90 minutes from the Who's December 8th, 1979 concert at Chicago's International Amphitheater, will be available exclusively through Best Buy stores.

In addition to the new documentary, the Who have also launched their first multimedia website, thewho.com.
