OT: WRITER'S STRIKE is on - all Late Night shows go into reruns tonight
Posted by: HelterSkelter ()

As usual, the greedy Top Dog bastards in Hollywood are trying to rip off the writers but besides that fact since the writers are on strike all the late night shows (LETTERMAN/LENO/CONAN/KIMBAL/etc) will now be going into reruns. Great, considering all the albums being put out during this very busy shopping season will now not be played on LATE NIGHT shows by all these great performers....Man, what a bitch !!! Let's see how long this circus lasts....

it seems like latley on Letterman he doesn't like what his writers are coming up with and he's just going along with it. Have you noticed that?

I'm sad that I'll have to wait for more daily show episodes; that show keeps me sane.

Actually I heard that Jon Stewart was going to pay the writers on his show and I believe the Stephen Colbert show, out of his own pocket for the next two weeks. We'll see if that happens.

Maybe ryan. I just happened to hear it on the radio on the way home tonight. Not the most reliable of shows, but maybe Hollywood can hire some of the creative people on here to do some writing for them. Even the facts on here are some of the best fiction I've ever read.winking smiley

Well this just @#$%&' sucks!
Fats Domino is scheduled for Letterman on Thursday and
is supposed to perform "My Blue Heaven" with Norah Jones.
Domino is also scheduled for "Today" the following morning.
Guess that's all we might get.

Yes, Helter, I agree on the rip-off of the writers. In 1988, no one had planned on the internet/www and the writers agreed to a 5 cents on the dollar pay back for any kind of taping and re-running, I think. I may not have the details other than the five pennies.

As a fan of Letterman, ryanpow, you may have something there. Letterman seems none too charmed by the writing. It's kinda like yeah, yeah, yeah. However, I think he said without the writers they'd have to wash clothes or some such. I doubt that Jon Stewart or Letterman would go do anything against the strike since I imagine both have done and still do, at least in Stewart's case, quite a bit of writing themselves over the years.

Well hell, maybe they should just go to all musical guests. Don't need any writers for that.

Oh Yeah, that Fats Domino 2 CD set is out, really good stuff on there with a lot of top talent doing 1 or 2 songs - I think PLANT does 2.... That would be nice to see on LETTERMAN but it's on the news right now and they're saying this strike might be a LONG ONE - DAMN !!!It's so obvious the writers are being ripped off if you hear the numbers. Tom Cruise gets 25 million, the writers get 25 cents......

Fats will be in NYC later this week primarily to
support that CD. The song he was supposed to do with Jones is her contribution to the CD.

For Fats to venture more than a few miles from New Orleans is pretty big.
He even turned down the Kennedy Center Honors a few years ago.
I hope he doesn't cancel because of this.

For any New Yorkers reading this, The Pink Elephant in
Manhattan will be having a tribute show with Ivan Neville, Leo Nocentelli and others. That will be on
Thursday night.

LOL!! Will millions of people suddenly realize that they have no lives outside of vicarious stimulation through television?

Step into the light -- the web is far worse. Just look at me -- I'm drawn into it, sort of. Same goes for many of YOU -- you're reading, and being sucked into the ether.

Another reason to hate the entertainment industry: all the people that actually do the grunt work (writers, bands, etc) get nothing while actors, label owners, etc make all of the money. Great to see what we've come to.

To give you a sense of what could potentially happen:

1988 was the last time the WGA went on strike. It lasted for 22 weeks.

I perfer the web becuase I decide what I watch, read, and look at. TV is catered to the LCD. Have you ever watched Fox's new "hit" 'Till Death. Ugh.

Fudge, yeah, Josh -- the Daily Show and those few minutes of serious laughter is a high point (THE high point?) of my day. I mean, no offense, but... We can't make fun of politics here!

Pity Ronnie didn't go on Letterman when he was scheduled.

I get home (I work at a Conservitive Christian University), watch the Daily Show, then I feel as if my day can begin.

At least the writers might finally get what they deserve.

This is not unique to the entertainment industry.

From the news today, it sounds like this is going to be "The Long Run".... anybody hear anything different? It's ALL so stupid cause in the end they are going to have to settle..... The Top Dogs will just have to buy one less Yacht this year, I understand how painful that can be but, sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet...

Well, the Starbucks in Studio City had a line around the block in the late morning. Jerry's Deli was crowded also, but I bet that will die down the longer the strike lasts.

I used to write for The Daily Show but they kept returning my letters unopened.
