YES, I WILL CONFESS AND CONFIRM, 'TIS I, C'EST MOI !
The story goes . . .
I had gone to the stade early in the afternoon and caught up with my German and German-Swiss freunds (with 2 notable exceptions) right outside the gates. In a very strange and twisted way, I had become acquainted with them and eventually joined their fan club and web site stonesTreff.de,
let me say it again, STONESTREFF.DE -- CHECK IT OUT
(Btw, there is an English version, but I don't know how functional it is, I hope one of them will post here to comment on that; should also say some of their members are also IORR members, and some have been banned)
So, we were just standing waiting for the gates to open when we see the local TV/Migros (??) crew going around and doing short interviews and such ... and after several minutes, they approach me all decked out in my Stones gear, more heavily than most.
Specifically, I was wearing that silky black club shirt with falling tongues all over that released on the Licks tour. I saw a lot of these in London buy hardly any elsewhere in the other 8 shows I saw this summer. I guess it was an attention getter, though I would like to think that I was the attention getter.
Anyway, they came up and asked me about the Stones, had I seen them before, etc, so I told them 40 + shows since 75, blah blah, from Montana in the States, blah, blah, then I started telling them about Gazza and Beast, Steffi, Iris, and Marianne (from Tref) -- no just kidding,
then they asked if I would sing a Stones song and I said no. Well, thought about it, hesitated, then turned to the pretty German gal I had been talking to, Connie the Cutie from Munchen (Munich) and said, what should I do?
I asked her if she would join me (or did she volunteer, cant remember, probably the latter as how could she resist the opportunity and how could she resist me?) so she just came over to me, threw her arm around me and burst into Salt of the Earth after which I then "joined" her, but yes, messed up the lyrics as I don't have that song memorized. It didn't go too well but it was fun.
She did tell me "well, it's YOUR language." Hey,honey, I didnt choose the song!
But all that got onto the website was the song, not my interview. So I have been in touch with them and they asked me who was the interviewer. Hell, I don't know. But now, I can send them this youtube video and maybe get my copy of everything!
If I do get the interview, maybe I can post it up, if any of you can stomach it!
Soon after, the gates opened, found out no FOS, so drank beer with the Germans (what else do you do with Germans!) all afternoon! And it was a good show, though I was almost attacked by several people when I pushed my way to the front of the B stage during Keith's set. Got good fotos anyway.
More than you ever wanted or needed to know, right!
