Stories about Keith's state of health on that particular day are well documented elsewhere of course, but there may even be some truth in the bit about cutting the cables, especially as Mark Ellen is very much a respected journalist and not the kind of guy to put his name to hearsay.
The official reason for 10CC's delay (2 hours as I recall) was that they were hoping to record the set for a live album and wanted everything to be perfect.
Whatever.
Mark Ellen is absolutely correct however, in stating that by the time the Stones did appear on stage (11.35), many thousands were indeed, already streaming home. Not the best of settings for a gig.
As for Keith's performance, well he was amazing! Such is the man.
