I think it's a fantastic performance. Though I hate long solos and boring improvisation, I can watch this one over and over and over again. It got the rock, the roll, the riff, ah - the whole package. Somebody agree to this?
Agreed with the Wiltern version being superior to MSG HBO, though I do love the HBO version (probably out of familiarity - both from the DVD and being at the show). That said, yesterday I watched the HBO rehearsal show from two days before and thought CYHMK sucked! Keith half-played and was almost inaudible, Mick sounded thin and tired, Ronnie's solo blew chunks, and the whole ensemble sounded ragged and sloppy, and not in the good way. Compared to that, the HBO version seemed like it was from Brussels '73.
I never liked the HBO broadcast version of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking".
I think its' one of the weaker versions I've heard. Keith sorta loses his place when the song stops right before the 2nd verse. He totally misses that crucial riff that brings the band back into the 2nd verse. You see him laughing about it with Ronnie a couple of seconds later. But in general, the whole "song" part of this particular performance is not that good in my opinion.
That being said, the jam part of the song is very good.

Yeah I think that's a pretty important riff because everything else dropped out. So if Keith doesn't play that, there's nothing there to cover him.
