there are several bands called the King Bees. try kingbees.com and see if these are the guys you are talking about, I think they have been around the longest.
The one he's probably thinking of put out a couple of records before they disbanded around 1980 or so...it was a rockabilly trio and i wanna say the guitarist's name was something like jimmy james - they were good - saw them circa 1979.....

Tod - You feeling ok? This message was absent the sarcasm and cynicism that typically accompany your posts;-)
I've not been around these parts much of late. Is this the new kinder, gentler you?

no - the Blues Bros started based on an idea that Belushi got from Robert Cray's singer at the time - a guy named Curtis Salgado during the filming of Animal House in Eugene in 1978...
Yeah, Mr. Miller - I've been reborn. I frown up those acting like I used to and will not tolerate such abuses. You okay with that, you moron?

Interesting I did not know that. Nor did I know animal house was filmed in Eugene. The blues brothers movie was pretty funny, but I dont really consider them serious music. Its just for fun.
however, I do like their arrangement of "everybody Needs somebody to love". the horns are different on it. the SNL band must have thought of that

Perhaps they weren't serious musicians, but their backing band had some serious musicians in it (Donald "Duck" Dunn, and Steve Cropper, to name two), plus both Akroyd and Belushi were avid blues fans, although I have always thought they were more soul/R and B (perhaps because of Dunn and Croppers presence?).

Aykroyd was definitely a "hack" on the harp, but Belushi was a credible soul singer, if you ask me...and he took the music VERY seriously. And, you're spot on about the band - don't forget none other than future Wino Steve Jordan was on the skins, too....and it was a crack group of horns and other side players too. No, it was SERIOUS music for serious R&B fans, no doubt about it. The movie meanwhile has turned out to be one of the great cult classics....actually saw some of it being filmed...the very first scene takes place in the dorm that I lived in at the time, in fact.
BluzDude - that is definitely the band I was talking about - have both of their vinyls somewhere - saw them at the UO at the EMU Ballroom.....
as I editited in in my last post, I do like the way the blues brothers band sounds on their version of "everybody needs somebody to love". esp. the horn sect.
yeah, ryan - i think some people misunderstood the whole Blues Brothers "thing" because a couple of comedians were involved and the movie was a comedy. but, there's no doubt that belushi and aykroyd took the music itself very seriously. aykroyd has continued a blue radio show to this day....i don't think either of them knew squat about R&B or blues before the band idea came about, but they were quick studies and good students of it, if not particularly gifted....
