Date: July 6, 2007 19:46
Today's the 50th anniversary of Paul McCartney meeting John Lennon when John's newly formed band The Quarrymen played at the Woolton Garden FĂȘte held at St. Peter's Church in Liverpool on July 6, 1957. Paul joined the band after seeing the performance, with Paul recommending his friend George Harrison join the band in early 1958.
George, of course, in 1963 recommended to Dick Rowe of Decca records, who passed on signing the Beatles, that instead of following the craze to sign Liverpool acts after the Beatles' success, to instead look in his own backyard at a great London band called the Rolling Stones. Rowe took Harrison's recommendation and signed the Stones to Decca.
