Who else thinks the song Emotional Rescue is a Stones classic and should be played more live?

I think it is their best ever song and that they should play it for a full two hours without having to resort to poor quality songs like MR, Sympathy, All Down The Line and Brown Sugar.

Yes - it's a Stones classic. No - it shouldn't be performed live.

Great song, I like it a lot. Always wondered if it would show up in a show, so far it didn't and I don't think it will ever be played live.

Not a classic imo but not garbage either. If they are going to do a live song from that album would much rather see All About You than ER.

All About You is a Keith song right? Also won't happen.

It could. I don't see a major difference between AAY and Slipping Away in terms of the general type of song. Any reason you know for certain that Keith would never pull that one out of the hat?

AAY would be a good additon to Keith's set and would definitely be a setlist shocker.

My guess is that the song is so low profile they are afraid no one would recognize it except the diehards- but they should do it anyway.

Down In The Hole.

AAY is tough live at large venue imho.
A few renditions are ok; but even more are weak.

It happened at every show in 1997. And it was most recently played in Edinburgh 1999. Also rehearsed in Vilvoorde.

It would be great!

and difficult because of the falsetto.
brings hot flashes of summer 80 NYclubs

Reminds me of the Jagger interview from IORR early 1998, where Mick said "no, of course Keith hasn't done ALl About You live!" And the interviewer kept on going "well you've played it at 50 shows last year" - but Jagger refused
Quite funny - Jagger pay no attention to Keith's performance

How do we know Keith do pay attention to Mick's performance winking smileywinking smileywinking smiley?

A classic? Can´t agree. I think it´s puerile. One of their worst. Even Mick said it was a joke.

A joke is not necessarily a bad thing to build a song on. Wonderful Tonight by Clapton is a joke too - though I don't care for that one anyway - it's still a classic

It's the one I skip on the album everytime. It's just not The Rolling Stones.

It's a good song, but I don't think it's one of his classics. I'd like to see him play Little T&A again, but I guess that's really a no go.

...?! Little T&A was included in Keith's set several times last year

ER is a fun, summer song - no more, no less.

It won't be played live because :

A. a lack of guitars
B. the falsetto voice

AAY was played often and pretty damn good in 1997.

"No Anchovies, Please"

Keith had an eloquent take on it:

Undercover of the Night, Emotional Rescue, these are all Mick's calculations about the market. And they're not the best records we've made. See, Mick listens to too much bad shit.

- Keith Richards, 1997

I was thinkin the lack of guitars wasnt a problem anymore!! noo I love it what a brave move for a R&R band...a dream song...girls like it...play it loud in your car and drive through the ghetto..when the snow falls!!i said it before but that moment when Jagger returns to his normal? voice is just such a relief e....thats magic in the air...the guitars that are there i love...and so do ilove the sax just as much...you could be mine oh mine!!

Love the song, especially the bass (Ron) & Charlie's drumming, Mick's persona as weird as on the rest of the album. Nice slinky funk. Whole album lacks SG's urgency & sense of purpose but has a fantastic band on pharmaceutical coke laying down great grooves (& occasionally, Down In The Hole for instance, songs)...Also a great guitar album, real 'weaving', maybe thanks to the proximity to the New Barbs tour...Very listenable.

Couple lowmars but its a feel-good-album.

Perfect for a Saturday morning.
Gonna play it tomorrow when I pay the bills grinning smiley

I love Emotional Rescue. Can't imagine them doing it live. Mick couldn't hit the high notes now, and doing it in a lower register wouldn't work because the falsetto contrated with the spoken sign-off.
