I agree with your comments about casual fans skipping it. $29.99 is an excellent price for a 4 dvd set, but obviously higher than what a casual fan may want to pay for a dvd, especially when they spent the same amount 4 years ago for Four Flicks.
I'm very happy that Best Buy sells it, because I have no problem dropping $29.99 for both of these dvds they have put out, but if they were priced at $49-59 at traditional retailers, I'd have to think twice about buying them, despite being a big fan. I'm sure I would have ended up buying both though, the new one primarily because I was at the Rio concert and would want that preserved on dvd. The Best Buy arrangement is good for both parties. I'm sure they have payed the Stones a lot of up front money for the exclusive rights and Best Buy uses the dvds as a loss leader to bring people into the store who will then see the electronic items they sell in their stores, where best Buy will truly make their profit. From the Stones standpoint, they are probably making more money off what Best Buy probably gives them upfront and by selling a lot more units even at the discounted price. I'm sure if these dvds were priced around $59.99 that they would have sold 1/4 of what they have sold currently.
