er, considering they cant even be bothered to do ONE blues number at their current concerts, id say an actual howlin' wolf concert is just about as likely.

sounds great, but unfortunately a lot of their 'target audience' these days probably wouldnt know a blues song if it jumped up and bit them on the arse...
Am I right in saying that this was the original concept/idea behind the small theatre shows on the Licks tour, before they unsurprisingly chickened out.

Given the relatively stony reception meted out to 'Love In Vain' at the Isle of Wight, that's about right.
i can see them returning from whence they came; the first album was like 11 r 'n b covers and Tell Me. don't think it will happen though until they're over their BIG ROCK SHOW extravaganza phase, which has been going on for decades. might be easier on keef's hands as well, not having to do all those 1 finger open G barre chords...
Pretty far fetched right now, though it might be a possibility in the future as old age sets in and their (Mick's) athleticism may no longer allow for stadium shows. I am sure it has been on their minds, too.
Incidentally, Eric Clapton's album covering old Robert Johnson songs is truly excellent IMHO.

they threw around quite a few possible ideas in interviews, such as an "all Exile" night etc. That may have been one of them.
can't see it happening....and, frankly, I don't think they are that great of a blues band anymore anyway...as Nikki and others have pointed out - look at what they generally choose for live covers these days - not standard blues songs - rather r&b covers that allow Mick, Lisa and the horns to shine...that's no accident; it's a calculated reflection on the current state of the band.

I dont think there's a prayer of that happening. There's no publishing royalties in such a concept

I don't know about that. I remember being at the second show in Fenway Park, where I thought Back of My Hand was pretty much the highlight of the show - notwithstanding the rush to the pisser it prompted among casual fans.

just talking about live show here gazza. i meant i could see the possibility of them turning into a blues act (ala back of my hand, rock me baby), should they ever decide to slow down but keep playing, -not implying releasing another England's Newest Hitmakers.
It could be easy for the rs to invite some of there "heros",some of them are still on stage, maybe to MSG, royal albert hall a.o.and do a real great blues show. But there is still a lot of money to be made with there fantastic rock show,no need to change anything.

yeah - from the versions I've seen/heard of BOMH - it came off relatively well in '05...but its absence from the proceedings - indeed the lack of virtually ANY blues song is noteworthy and I think reflects the current thinking of Jagger & Co. And, no way could they sustain the interest of themselves, let alone even a small theater crowd for an entire show of blues or blues-based songs. R&B fits their current "mold" much better - where they can leverage the horn section, etc....and not lean heavily on the "guitar section," so to speak ;-)
I think the stones generally play a more bluesy set in the US than they do in Europe. Look at 72 US tour compared to 73 Europe. they've been doing the same fomula since then. We Had BOMH in the US on BB tour.
but I don't see the Stones doing any themed shwos like this. I feel Mick would roll his eyes at something like it...I can see him thinking it was "tacky" or below him. All blues show...cool...I can see them tag on a couple of the warhorses at the end though...can't see them being on a stage and NOT do one of their songs...
