Biggest changes in Rock/Pop history
Posted by: NICOS ()

My opinion about the biggest changes in modern music.

1953/1954 Rock & Roll +++++++
1959/1960 Easy Listing - - - + (sorry Rockman just at a(n) + for 1960)
1963/1964 Pop/Beat ++++++++++
1966/1967 Rock ++++++++++++++ (I think ‘66/’67 is the biggest changes in music)
1968/1969 Music ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
1970/ Mixed/Music + - + - + - + (till 2007)

Other opinions ?

1965 - Dylan goes electric
1977 - PUNK Rock kicks the world's ass.
1991 - Nirvana releases "Never Mind"
2000(?) - First American Idol in USA
early 80's - MTV hits the airwaves

Comprehend NICOS'points but also agree with Chelsea's:
I had in mind puttin' in 77 before I read the latter's post.

But I also wanna see more nuances in it... 1964-65 was Big years in
rock, garage, British Invasion, rock fever... 1969-70 was birth of
heavy rock... 1977-80 was also birth of Heavy Metal...
And English/US punk actually was on the go from circa 1974 and had glam as
its uncle...

Video killed the radio star, but we do love the old clips of Stones, et al, on You Tube...

(I thought the music died on Dec 8, 1980? Any will die by stages over the next 40 years...)

December 1980 The death of Lennon. Certainly ended the dream of a Beatles reunion for many.

the amazing spell in the early-to-mid sixties when self-sufficient songwriter/performers took off bigtime
and the music industry got rearranged to the point where the artists actually had some control

If that was the date that MTV started, then I think thats a valid statement.

MTV wasn´t that bad in the beginning, when they actually played music, both videos and live performances. And I think the unplugged series was a great idea with a lot of great artists. A pity that the Stones wasn´t persuaded to play unplugged, they could have done wonders in that format.
