Stones at the Isle of Wight - thirty days to go

Just 30 days to go ... I can't WAIT !!

This is going to be one of the more interesting shows I'll be attending this summer, I think it's going to fascinating seeing how the Stones go down with a very mixed and invariably much younger "festival" audience.

Quite agree. It'll be nice to see them perform outside the structure of their own big machine for a change.
[Though I'm sure they'll have insisted on complete control of just about EVERYTHING before agreeing to the gig ;^) ]

I think they'll go down a storm! Always works when an 'oldies'act plays Glasto. The stones have a great heritage and the young crowd should love a great rock n roll show.....

Good point. Anyone know what the likelihood of it being televised is ?

It's kind of a milestone gig for them, so it's great that they'll televise it.

Well is years gone past they have screened the days music 1/2 hours after it finishes live but have heard strong rumers that the stones set is going to be live, so will just have to wait and see.

They normally show highlights of the Isle Of Wright Festival on Chanel 4, so I'll guess thats what we'll be seeing the Stones on. Except fo the lucky bastards who'll be there of course ;o)

Cant wait to see them, i really dont want them to be a let down though! Everything i have heard about them really does sound impressive but i dont want to build them up to much and then feel a bit let down at the time. Are they really as good as everyone says they are live?

This is what the IOW Festival website has to say about the Stones...

This is going to be great. I said I'd never travel to see the Stones again after they cancelled Bangkok, but I've broken my own rule for this.

It's going to be an interestng show in most ways - except one. I think the setlist will stick to being quite warhorse-intensive. I can understand why they wouldn't want to mix it up too much, what with there being so many non-fans there. But I'd really like to hear some setlist surprises....

yes, 90%(?) of this audience will have never seen the band, live before.
To them, 'SMU' and 'YGMR' will be fresh and wonderful.

"Possibly the most underrated album of the Stones' career, Dirty Work finds the band at its rawest and most rhythmically charged, a reflection of the tumult within the band when it was recorded. True Stones fans have long worn their appreciation of Dirty Work as a hip badge of honor"

YES!!
