Depp praises Keith's acting skills

DEPP: 'RICHARDS IS A PERFECT ACTOR'

Just found this! Great!

Hollywood star JOHNNY DEPP was shocked by ROLLING STONES guitarist KEITH RICHARDS' acting skills - because they were so accomplished. Richards appears in the forthcoming Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, At World's End, and Depp has praised his co-star's aptitude on his big-screen debut. He says, "Keith did his bit like it was any other gig - he did it perfectly. "It wasn't like, you know, people could tell that it was his first cinematic venture. He was just perfect."

That's cause Keith's been acting his whole life.... he created a character called "Keith Richards" way back. I wish Depp would stop doing these fluff Disney flixs and get back to some work of substance... it's times like these when you really miss RIVER PHOENIX (and he ate it in front of Johnny's old club - Viper Room - how ironic)

River Phoenix has been dead for quite a long time now. He wasn t that great anyway. Depp is up for another chapter in this series. Maybe Keith will reprise his role in that one as well. These wretched flicks rake in so much cash that there will probably be another couple. This news should make u happy!!!!!!!!

Depp aint too bad in this Sparrow role imho. He has studied various
chades of Richards along the years; and he has composed a complex
figure out off it...

Hey, I greatly admire Johnny Depp -- he follows his own course, and the "Pirates" series was something he's basically done as a lark. Besides, his kids liked the character, so why not? To his credit, though, he took the character of Jack Sparrow and stretched the envelope of Disney's tolerance. To see this twisted character on posters in kids' rooms around the globe is delicious irony. Hell, my own daughter, who's 10, thinks Jack is cool -- of course, she already knows about Keith.

The final act of following his own path was getting Keith to make his cameo -- I think it's great. Ol' Walt must be rolling in his grave. I love it.

If Depp doesn't make money on such projects he doesn't get to 'follow his own path' much, either.

He's a good actor. His best performances were in "Donnie Brasco" and "Ed Wood".

As far as Keith goes, rock stars in general do a good job in movie roles, considering acting is not their main profession. Jagger was good in that movie with Andy Garcia- except for the scene where he proposed to the girl in the restaurant and she turned him down. That stupified look on his face cracked me up.

To Frank M: I thin if you are not a trained actor it depends very much on the director. While Cammell left him doing "Mick Jagger as Turner" perfectly well, Mick is very good in the outtakes of "Fitzcaraldo" (1981) because Werner Herzog had an essential role (read the book) for him that he played very convincing. When Jason Robards turned ill and was replaced by best ever (!) German actor Klaus Kinski Mick couldn't re-shoot his scenes because of the Tattoo-You-tour. Mick's part was absorbed by Herzog into the then-Kinski-Fitzcaraldo figure in the final movie. But Mick and Kinski would have been something for the Oscars!

I am SO tired of the Depp/Pirate hype.

According to people who've seen it at a Hollywood screening room Keith is barely in it and parts of the movie are boring and repetitious in the extreme.

I doubt that Keith got all that much dough but Johnny and his producer have certainly gotten a lot of mileage out of talking about him.

Quite frankly, so am I. I didn't understand in the first place why it was such a big deal. It has nothing to do with the things that makes Keith Richards interesting to us, meaning guitarplaying/singing/songwriting, and his memories on how things were done in the past...interviews.
And Keith probably couldn't care less about that role, it's just one of those things he does, maybe Keith feel a need to be polite to Johnny Depp who seems to worship Keith, in a bit embarrasing way...because it has nothing to do with Keith's qualities, just Keith's way of talking, moving and relaxing...things that fall natural to Keith.

a argee with this. Plus, I saw Pirates one and the whole premise doesn't even make any sense. Theres a battle scene with immortals. Whats the point of fighthing an immortal? Theyre gunna win no matter what.

That's exactly what I thought, when my singer told me - Johnny Depp is doing a Pirate movie with Keith as an inspiration - wtf, I don't care.
never went to the movie.
but then my bassplayer slipped me a DVD.

I loved Roman Polansky's Pirates when I was much younger.
Walter Mathau as Captain Red was friggin great for me.
I thought I'd grown out of those things - but seeing Captain Jack Sparrow, doing & saying things like Keith - was hilarious, funny, charming & very entertaining.
Disney stuff, it sure is - but it works for me.

Keith also sayd he could never have dreamed of doing anything for Disney...
but it takes two to tango...
Depp made it happen.

Oh well, sorry open-g, if one like those Pirate-tales, there sure can't be a better version that one who has Keith present. I don't care too much for Pirate tales, apart from some books which use the ship as a scenario for other issues than the life on the sea....
I'd love to see a Stone or two in Streets Of San Francisco...fighting Karl Malden, but I'm sure most Stones-fans would rather see them on stage.
So you are right in your way, and I am right in mine
Of course I'll check it out when it's released, and maybe I'll be ¤hooked¤

Just hope this new one is more like the first which was a good (not great) movie. The last one was a bore. I won't pay ten bucks to see a bad movie just because Keith is in it. I'll wait till it comes on cable.

I have hardly watched TV since Streets Of San Francisco went off the air,
nothing could replace it...Frank Cannon wasn't that far off though

That was the golden age of crime dramas- Rockford Files, Barnaby Jones, Cannon etc. Some great shows back then.

I started watching re-runs of Magnum P.I. on A&E recently. That show has stood the test of time so far. still good IMO.

I thought I heard something about a big screen Magnum P.I. movie but that was a few years ago. Maybe it was just a rumor.

LoFL! is that from the Fordyce Incident Episode, Open-G? sweet!

i finally saw the first Pirates of the Caribbean on TV a few weeks ago -
the little glimmers (ahem, sorry!) of Keith in the Depp character's mannerisms were amusing to see,
and if Keith had fun doing his bit in the new one i'm glad, but beyond that it didn't move me much.

Magnum? That was the beau who drove a Ferrari but couldn't shake off gangsters in Diesel pick-ups with automatic transmission.

True, that's a great one, but... it's not my work...

>>LoFL! is that from the Fordyce Incident Episode, Open-G? sweet! <<
I have no idea, sorry.
just googled some Karl Malden pics.

Of course those Potc movies ain't earthshakin' pieces of art - just pure entertainment - the coorparate Disney style.

There have been loads of pirate genre films from the '30s till 50's - quite lame by todays standards.
well, they didn't work for me.
What started me off was a holiday visit to St.Lucia in the West Indies.
I visited a small museum where bits and pieces and storys of real pirates where on display.
I bought a small printed pamphlet diary of a Lieutenant J.H.Caddy , Royal Artillery.
so I had some nice descriptions in a unique environment.
Drinkin' the fresh local Rum helps a lot, also.
After those poct movies, I'd love to go back there.

apologies for the obscure "humour" - since that's 1975 Keith you've enhanced the the shot so nicely with,
it reminded me of his arrest in Fordyce Arkansas for dubious driving, carrying a knife and being generally outlandish.
