Can't help but thinking about Hank Williams.He died 29 y.o and left so many classic hits!-seems as unbelievable as in Buddy Holly's case(he died 22 y.o.). Townes Van Zandt is stunning also:"I've got two girls-one in heaven,one below..."Deeply touching!
Are J/R and L/McC to be considered typical singer/songwriters? To me S/S are artists who can do a whole show with just an (acoustic) guitar or piano accompanying their vocals.

I always thought that singer/songwriters were people that sang and wrote songs...?
McCartney does about a third of his show with just him and an acoustic guitar / piano these days.
