Noel Gallagher needs to learn the meaning of the word 'dynamics'. Add the monoaural sound of Liam's vocals.

In no special order: Nick Cave, Scott Walker, Roger Waters, Roy Harper, Jagger/Richards, David Bowie.

A few of these are my favourite lyricists but not necessarily favourite vocalists if that make sense.

Can't help but thinking about Hank Williams. He died 29 y.o and left so many classic hits!-seems as unbelievable as in Buddy Holly's case(he died 22 y.o.).
Townes Van Zandt is stunning also:"I've got two girls-one in heaven, one below..."Deeply touching!

Are J/R and L/McC to be considered typical singer/songwriters? To me S/S are artists who can do a whole show with just an (acoustic) guitar or piano accompanying their vocals.

So for me (in no particular order and incomplete)

Waits
Hiatt
Dylan
Guthrie
Springsteen
Lucinda
Oldham

I always thought that singer/songwriters were people that sang and wrote songs...?

McCartney does about a third of his show with just him and an acoustic guitar / piano these days.
