The Stones have been saying and doing outrageous things in order to get a rise out of people since the group started, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who knows anything about their history.

For God's sake lighten up! It was a joke. I made a similar one about my mum's ashes and my siblings and I thought it was funny and my mum would have too. If you think it's disgusting then don't make jokes about your families remains but if others do let them worry about it. @#$%& hell!

Come on Tim, Keith is not, and will never be the father of your children: that's you. So don't worry. You did not grow up in montana, did you? I've read somewhere you grew up in a big city, amidst metropolitan life. Think back, did it harm you?

Honestly, much as I love him, sometimes I wish he would just keep his mouth shut. Seems like ever since around the Babylon tour, his running off at the mouth (not to mention EGO) have gotten worse and worse.

I remember that interview Hunter S Thompson did w/him in the 80's, where he came off as humble and articulate, even saying "Without the Beatles, there would be no Stones". Keith would never say that nowadays. All he seems to do is slag new bands for (at least the way he sees it) trying to be like the Stones, or like him at the very least, make tacky jokes that aren't that funny and publicly dog Mick, who is probably the main reason this band is even still together in any capacity.

Like I said, I love him but I wish he would just shut his trap and play the guitar.

Keiths wit here does stray on the bizarre, but it is also a clear case of the written word misinterpreting when someone is joking. If he had said this in a broadcast interview on tv you would have seen the smile on his face and the glint in his eye which would have said, "This is a joke folks". But no, like John Lennons famous "We're bigger than Jesus" quote in a magazine interview, its all been taken out of context, misunderstood and now the guy is going to hang for it.

Keiths favourite stand up commedian is Max Miller (very famous on radio in the UK in the 1950's). Keiths wit is copied form this guy, a little story with a twisted punch line - typical joke from Max miller below;

"When I got married the girls father said, "I'll give you an acre of land and a cow". (long pause). "I'm still waiting for the acre of land".

Ahhhh maybe he's just pickin' up bad

Yup - Keef is Keef...but much like the follower of another popular figure these days - Jesus - people would prefer him to die so they can worship what he - supposedly - was ...not what he is ;-)

For a charming, gracious Keith, see the pre-show R and R Hall of Fame interview and his intro of the Ronettes on that occasion. The man had brain surgery this year, geez, and in his joy to be alive may be speaking out a little more often these days.

It's interesting how so many people on this board got SO bent out of shape about Keith's comments......personally insulted or something. It's funny how people think that just because they know their music, have seen a few interviews and have read a magazine article or 2.....that they REALLY KNOW THEM well enough to be affected by anything they say..joke or not.

I think Keith had a lot of respect for his father. I don't think Keith would make a joke such as that. Mick on the other hand--I can see him making a joke like that at Keith's expense.
