OT: Who Tampa show cancelled after 30 seconds.

The Who came out on stage and broke into "Can't Explain" and after about 30 seconds, Daltry walked off the stage holding his throat. Pete said Roger is battling bronchitis and he would go back and see if they could come back and play in about 5-10 minutes. After that time Pete did come out to announce that the show would not go on and it would be rescheduled for 3/25.

Wow, that really sucks, but can imagine that it's very dissapointing for the band too... Hope they don't have more problems like this.

Artists are human beings. Sometimes people forget about it...

The sceptic in me wonders if it is reasonable that in the 10 minutes that they were offstage, they could have figured out logistically how to make 3/25 work for both the band and the venue.

The open-minded optimist in me chooses to give them the benefit of the doubt and accept that, if he has been under the weather, they already had this contingency plan in place, but really tried to "go on with the show".

It would have been cool if Pete did one tune on his own, just as a treat for those fans.

In Chicago in September 2006 Roger went off before My Generation with breathing problems and Pete did a blistering solo version before Roger came back to the stage. I'd go for that anyday over a cancelled show!!

Daltrey has had some frequent vocal challenges during this tour...
Good news though, whenever the Who reschedules a cancelled show, they typically give an extra special performance. Expect some extra songs and a few rare gems.
Be lucky.

Mr Daltrey is much more vulnerable than our Sir Mick to such issues really.
If Mick's voice isn't perhaps as good as it could be, he can alter the way he sings and not put so much stress on the vocal chords. Daltry can't. You can't really talk or shout Who vocals like you can with Stones numbers if the voice isn't working properly.

Roger has not taken care of his voice as Mick has. Mick will more than likely outlive us all. He has always taken care of his health and appearance and whole body and mind. He's cool.

Good point...would have been nice if Pete did a few songs by himself after he mentioned the situation. My feeling is that the songs he would have performed are not part of the standard set list and there was no time to get the lyrics up on Pete's teleprompter.

Do the people get a parking refund?

No refunds but they'll probably get a return voucher for parking when the show is rescheduled.

I'm sure that PT and band could've done a few songs.
He must be able to remember the words to at least half a dozen songs.

They have been playing three or four songs PT sings anyway.

Gee they are getting more and more like the Stones every day.

I have always read the opposite: while the rest of the who in the 60s and 70s were taking pills, drugs and drinking themselves into oblivion, Daltrey was said to be clean. Further, he does indeed keep in better shape then most people his age. Personally i think Micks voice is shot, rather than sing, he chants, or so it seems. Given the amount of shows the Who do in a given time span, its not surprising that at 62 Rogers voice would fail.

I saw Pete in 1993 in Berkeley, California. He did a lot of Who songs, and sang all of 'won't get fooled again'. It was a great show. I love a lot of the songs off 'Rough Boys' and 'White City'. Yeah, I sure would have liked seeing him play a few songs- I'd walk out a bit less depressed.

But, then again, Pete is an emotional person. I am sure he was quite upset/sad- so maybe his heart wasn't into it.

I have always thought Pete was the best singer in the Who

If the play even solo stuff they loose the insurance coverage for cancellation. It was a Live Nation venue and they did not loose the beer sales and concessions however!

A quite difficult hit world records when it comes to shortest concert over timeā€¦it is both heavy and sad to have seen that show...in one way...or another...
