OT: Been to Vegas lately?

I'm sure a few of you have been to Las Vegas over the years to see the Stones or whatever. Any suggestions as to what is worth seeing and what isn't? I'm not a gambler so I need something else to occupy my time while I'm there.

I'm going there next month for a week-long conference courtesy of my employer. I've been to Vegas once before but didn't have much time to explore then.

How is the House of Blues? I'll be at Mandalay Bay so that's convenient enough for me.

Where are the good places to eat that aren't way overpriced?

go north on hwy 15 (i think) to the Valley of Fire state park. cool red rock formations. a lot of "star trek" episodes were filmed there - it's looks like what hollywood thinks mars might look like. lots of petroglyphs there - rock drawings made by the native americans.

I liked the show 'love-the beatles' at the Mirage; only if you like the beatles though. 'O' at Bellagio is also great; performed mainly in a big pool. Both of those shows are Cirque-de-Soliel (sp?); lots of acrobatics and wild things. Also comical.Enjoyed those a lot. There are also other 'Cirque-' shows in Vegas.

The restaurants are awesome- many. Just go to the bars; you can order most of anything and no reservations needed. Okay, there are other advantages of a bar also!

Prince is playing in a small club at Rio- saw him there and it was awesome. You'll have to see if he is playing during your week. Elton John is plays at Caesars a lot. I know many people are not happy with him and the beatles on this forum; so it is only if you like him/them. (He plays all of his greatest hits).

But, all of this is rather expensive; but cheaper than gambling!

I love vegas- I go twice a year usually. More when the stones play.

Good luck!

I was just there last week. Bizarre town.
If the weather is nice, and it should be, just go on walk-about on the strip. We spent an entire afternoon just looking around. Art Gallery and fountains at the Bellaggio, great shops if you're into that. House of Blues is cool, check with the Empire Ballroom or the Joint at the Hard Rock to catch a show.

Next door at the Luxor, Criss Angel of Mindfreak fame resides and is currently filming season three of his A&E show. The dude is sick!!! You might catch him filming, we did last week.

Have fun and don't lose too much $$$$$$.

got married there 9 years ago....drive thru wedding our families were not thrilled, but we're very happy.

Not a gambler either, I just had fun walking around the casino's, shops and going to the shoes.

Be prepared to walk...in Vegas things appear closer than they really are.

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

Valley of Fire-good hiking
Great golf courses
each casino has its own theme
example - white tigers at the MGM, 5 acres of amusement park at circus circus
the Hard Rock, off the strip has the best pool.
One of my favorites-Lake Mead/Hoover Dam if you got the $$$, rent a house boat for day on the lake.
grand canyon is 5hr drive or 30 minute helicopter ride
get married and or search for elvis. he's there somewhere

eating- eating good or bad is about the same $$$

visit the voodoo lounge bar. just ask, its great.

tom in nc

The Beatles Love- Cirque de Soleil

KA - Cirque de Soleil

Prince - Rio

House Of Blues - Sunday Gospel Brunch

The Stratosphere - Take elevator to the top, amazing view day or night.
Also at the top, a very scary rollercoaster, and rides overhanging the city..too insane looking for me.
I had a drink in the bar, and then watched.

The Peppermill coffee shop/restaurant - GIGANTIC PORTIONS for great price!

Many finy art galleries.

As stated above, walking through some of the giant hotel's is an experience in itself.
They're like mini-cities with almost anything you can imagine.
Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, MGM, etc.

The only thing missing is a Stones concert. sad smiley

(oldkr, did you mean "Zoomanity"? Adult animal sex, hmm, I was wondering!)

If you like shopping, Caesar's Shops are interesting for window-shopping, anyway.
I would try for the Prince show.
Mirage has lions and tigers in back, outside.
Bellagio art show if you like who they're exhibiting. Dale Chihuly's glass "balloons" on the ceiling in a room off the lobby.

you scared me for a minute, angee - i thought you were serious because vegas is where those websites come out of. i knew an activist in carson city, nevada who was trying to get beastiality - sex with animals - outlawed in nevada. i sat in at the hearing and all the state reps and assemblypeople giggled about it like idiotic kids.

i see though that its a cirque du soleil thing at new york, new york (i love that casino)
