I'm getting prepared for the ticket purchases, I know where to buy the tickets for Zagreb, but I wonder what the ticket websites for Belgrade and if you know it, Bucharest are?
Thanks!

Btw, do you know how much it might cost to get from Zagreb to Belgrade by train, and then on to Bukarest. Around 25 Euros for each trip, is that realistic?

Great, thanks! I'll only need a single ticket,I imagine it's about half price of the return ticket.
Looking forward to travelling Eastern Europe a bit smiling smiley

thanks novica for both links!

the rail travel is a little more expensive than i expected. there's an affordable "balkan flexipass" (which may involve purchasing reservations in addition like eurail) but what countries are considered the balkans? croatia? what else?

25 to go from one city to another one is not so bad, I think.
I don't think the eurail or the balkan flexipass makes sense, only if you wanna go back the same way by train?

lq:
the countries commonly included in the Balkan region are:
Albania
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Croatia
Montenegro
Greece
Republic of Macedonia
Serbia
Turkey, but only the European section of it (traditionally called Rumelia or Eastern Thrace)

where do you see 25 euros?

on this site: [www.zeleznicesrbije.com]
belgrade to bucharest is 44 euros

i never use the eurail flexipass to go back to where i came from...looking at the countries listed by novica (thank you novica) - a flexipass could get me from athens, to croatia, to serbia. then i guess i'd have to buy a seperate ticket to bucharest.

i just emailed them to ask them some questions to clarify...

Those 44 euros are for a return ticket, as it is a special ticket I guess that a single ticket will be a bit more than half of that --> 25 Euros.
You are sure you want to go from athens to zagreb by train? That'd be a 30 hours trip!

oh - ok i see the return thing.

geez - 30 hours? it didn't look like that at first glance...i checked the cheap greek airline i took last summer - aegean air - and they don't fly to zagreb. how are you going to get there?

As I won't go to the show in Athens, I'll go from Vienna to Zagreb by train, that's about 6 hours and 29 euros (there is a special fare).

That's gonna be a bit tricky to get from Athens to Zagreb cheaply and quickly.
SkyEurope flies from Athens to Split, which is still another 5.30 hours from Zagreb. The flight is rather expensive (around 150 euros) and they don't fly this route very frequently (can't tell you the details now, just checked quickly). I didn't find any direct flight for this route.

thanks for checking - i saw that skyeurope flight to split too - rather expensive. i can always fly from athens to milan for "cheap" - then maybe take another flight or a train...
