I can't see anything to gain musically by the Police reuniting after all these years. They just can't possibly recapture their original fire and mystique...given that (a) Sting has gone on to become musically ridiculous and irrelevant. and (b) their hatred for one another was so well known... why would they be doing this now? I can't possibly look at the Police now the same way that I did twenty-five years ago.

Why would they be doing this now? Because our very own M. Cohl has guaranteed them $300 Million for the tour, that's why. In order to cover their guarantee, ticket prices will definitely have to be up there in the Stones-Macca-Madonna range. They were certainly an impressive band, but I'm not particularly nostalgic about them. I'm not sure they're capable of inspiring the wave of nostalgia that's needed to sell tickets at those prices.
WOW WOW WOW ...Can't effing wait ....Hearing ROXEANNE, EVERY BREATHE, and MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE for the millionth time is almost as great as having a giant Xmas tree shoved up my ass while I'm getting a root canal and having a fish hook taken out of my eye.... I'm STOKED !!! Bring 'em on!!! BTW, Is Rocker Sting TOTALLY bald yet?
Police were a great band? I don't know, saw them in Hamburg in '83 and every effing song sounds the same. Have all the vinyl but NO cd's, realized it was just a strange phase after a while... POLICE = ONE TRICK PONY.....

there should be a rule against going out on these huge money making tours with no new music, at least pretend like its not just for the money like the stones do, at least they make an effort
The funny thing is,everybody bitches about them doing a tour without new material. But when they do tour,do you think the people paying $100 or more a ticket really want to hear new stuff? Just check the 5 wishes thread for Europe. I haven't noticed a lot of requests for ABB material. Having said all that, while I was never a huge Police fan,I will be interested to see how they sound. Unless they play Roxanne, which I loathe, then I will run for the remote control.

Times have changed. Bands don't do the whole, put an album out and tour to support thing anymore. Espicially older bands. You tour if their is a market for your product. Check out Van Halen. They announced a tour with no new material as of yet. Also Genesis. I have not heard of them coming out with new material.
your right but i still think they should put out new stuff, if the market is there why not try and bring something new to the table, they can still go out and make the money, the market is always there for the stones to just go make the money but they always put out a fresh tune anyway even though they know the people want the warhorses

Well like most bands do,I'm sure that The Police will probably come with a few new songs along the way and if the tour is succesful, then they may be inclined to record new material. If they haven't killed each other by then.
Sorry to be a ray of sunshine in this hatefest, but I actually liked/like this band. Not Sting solo very much though. Saw 'em in 1983 and thought they were great. And who's to say they won't record some new stuff?
I think the Police are touring in support of the 30 year anniversary. That's just cashing in to get richer. As if Sting needs the money, Oprah interviewed him and he says he has 8 houses! They should at least put something out like greatest hits with 3 new tracks or a live concert. But don't just take. I'm not a Police fan, I'd rather see Phil Collins.
I like the Police, and I don't mind that they're touring without new material. It's been 20 years or so since their last tour - it's not as if they've been out there playing the hits over and over for the last two decades like some bands.
If they stay together after this tour (which is doubtful) then I'd say yeah, they should put out some new stuff rather than just doing "greatest hits part II."
This might be good for us. Once Cohl loses his shirt on the Police he will do anything it takes to get our money winning act back on the road one more time.

Logic and reasoning. That's so unlike you ohno.lol..........But they are supposed to do a press conference tomorrow at the Whiskey in LA. Where they are supposed to play a few songs as well. That may be a better indication of how they sound then the Grammy's. Again,if they paly play Roxanne,my TV may be in grave danger. I never liked that song to begin with, but after hearing Eddie Murphy sing at the beginning of 48 HRS. That's all I can think of.

There's nothing terribly wrong with Sting's solo stuff at all. A song here and there is actually imaginative and inventive (albeit often in the more "easy listening" vein).
Anyway, I'm definitely up for a Police tour!
