keith's telecasters: does he also use the humbucker, or only the single coil?

Although almost all of Keith's telecasters seem to be customized with a neck humbucker, he hardly uses it. I always see the pickup selector in the bridge/single coil mode! So why are almost all of his telecasters fitted with a humbucker? I can remember reading something that his telecasters are wired in a different way, so when the pickup selector is in the bridge/single coil position, he's actually playing through the humbucker/neck pickup. Does anybody know more about this??? Thank you!
