Yes, Federer is astonishing. "How to play tennis" incarnated. I wonder if I ever saw such great gap between one man and the rest of the world in any other sport. Plus, everyone has to like him - hope he takes the four grand slams this year!
I don't see any other tennis-player who may defy him constantly. Nadal is good on sand but he never will win against him in New York or Wimbledon. Federer is the greatest, and he'll beat Sampras in regard to Grand-Slam-titles within the next two years, that's for sure!
The only other athlete to raise the bar so significantly in the modern era was Wayne Gretzky whose records were like 40% better than the previous holders' ......The Fed is simply the best athlete in the world....

Ever heard of Tiger Woods?
"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"
Thanks, charmed, I was wondering if everyone had forgotten Tiger. Not meant to take anything away from Federer's feats.
And what about Federline (Britany's ex)- went from being famous to a nobody faster than anyone in history! American tabloid press is calling him Fed-Ex!

??? Do you really think so? I personally don't see any indications, Federer being snuggly. The archetypal of a cocky player in my eyes is Sharapova!!!!
Federer is a total bad ass on the court, and a great pleasure to watch. Unless something very unusual happens, he will go down at the best to ever play the game. I also think he is the most dominating player in his sport right now. Tiger is great no doubt, and just won his 7th tourney in a row, but he is not totally dominant like Federer. Interestingly, ESPN.com ran a poll last week asking who was more dominant -- TW or Federer. With about a half million votes last time I checked, Federer was winning that poll with 60% of the vote (compared to TW's 40%). Polls aren't the final say obviously, but I thought that was fairly telling given how much more popular and publicized golf and TW are in the U.S.
golf is glorified pool....you are in control of everything you do....you can theoretically hit the perfect shot from a static position...there is no opponent, no reaction, totally out of shape people can do it....Tiger dominates a game, not a sport on par (pun intended) with tennis....
Sharapova is cool. She's a real competitor. Nothing like previous bimbo, what was her name? Kournikova. Unfortunately, Sharapova's game is not very interesting, but that's a general problem with women's tennis. It's hit, hit, hit, miss. A few years back, tellingly, Navratilova won (at 47 or something) a set against a top 10 woman player, and asked how she did it, she said it was easy: use their brutish force and counter attack on it. I really wonder why no woman comes with power and yet subtlety - she'd be invincible. Mauresmo is close to that (although too weak mentally), as was Nathalie Tauziat, great at the net, who had a marvellous swann song a few years back, although obviously past her prime.
