73 Was ok---but 89/90 was Awesome

89-90 was not their best tour - but it was certainly their most welcomed!

Althouh I know that most people disagree with this, I would agree with Havo. They really came back with a big bang that year and they proved that after all those years they were still the greatest rock'n roll band in the world. They never sounded and played better - okay, with the help of many friends, but just look at the videos of that tour - brilliant.

The 89/90 tour is too slick and polished and lacks the old Stones raw energy.

It's the first Stones tour that did absolutely nothing for me. It's corporate rock in all it's glory.

The sound itself was perhaps a little too slick, but in terms of actual performance, I don't think Keith has been better since. Ronnie was also fantastic on this tour too. Listen to his lead work on Undercover From The Night

I don't think Steel Wheels was better than any tour that followed it, except maybe ABB, but even then it wouldn't be by much.
Voodoo Lounge rocked because they included stuff like ADTL,MM,RO, in the setlist and Voodoo was a better album than SW. BTB was great w/ the b stage, playing TLT and CM. LICKS just kicked ass-plain and simple.
Musically, 69 was the best.
81 was probably the best tour based on viewing LSTNT, but I was a mere 10 years old and my Ma wouldn't let me borrow the car for that one.

Gotta agree but by the smallest margin....I like them all.
Steel Wheels tour brought us

Midnight Rambler, 2000 LYFH, SympathyFTD, Play with Fire, Steel Wheel songs-ME,R&HP, AHYS,SA, a stage that was incredible-personally like it better than VL, a welcome back tour, Little Red Rooster, Angie,Ruby Tuesday, Factory Girl, Undercover,
It was slick but the Stones had A LOT TO PROVE. Clear sound, light show, crappy opening act in USA-Living Colour was OK the first 2 shows. But the entire tour??
I was lucky enough to go to AC,NJ for the HBO special with ERIC, Axl and Izzy. a great night.

"69, '72, '75 were by far their best tour(s)...real rock n roll shows

'73 musically '89-90 Emotionnally ( the return and the last with Bill ) '05-06 Turning point ( Y or N )

1989/90 is the worst of the tours since 1981 IMO.

tom makes a good point re: the setlist. Just superb. (second only to '81, IMCO.) Soundwise however, no way was this the best tour! It's probably the tour I listen to least . . .

89-90 is a funny tour. there were lots of cool things about it, yet you hear time and time again that its the tour people go back and listen to the least amount of times, myself included. Steel Wheels/Urban jungle is an enigma.

weird that we LISTEN to it least, considering that mick's hair was probably the outright worst feature of the tour . . .

89-90 the best tour? No way. Two words: Matt Clifford.

No. Out of all tours from 1981 'till 2006, SW/UJ Tour is the worst.

That might be, but I was refering to the expression "worst since 81", because 81 is absolutely the best tour since 78.

81 was the best tour since 78. as well as the worst. It is an enigma wrapped up in a riddle.

Disagree there. I never liked the 1981/1982 tour. That's their worst alongside 1989/1990.
