supposedly he flew home for Art's funeral - it would be quite astonishing to see the Stones perform without him. Blondie's certainly a more than capable fill-in, but still.....

Jesus, that would be something. I can understand they're loathe to make further cancellations or postonements, but a show without Ron ? This won't happen, surely ?

I wouldn't mind considering the circumstances.

Not a historian by any means, but I would think this would be an unprecedented event, where the band performed a show with a fill in for any of the members.

I would think it would be more likely that if this has happened in the past, it would have been either for Ronnie's slot (current or previous players) or Bill's when he was with them. Obviously, going on stage without Mick or Keith would be unimaginable.

Great, I am about to get on a plane and fly to Phoenix for tonight's show. I would love to see ronnie play. I understand him wanting to attend his brother's funeral. I just hope they don't cancel. I have heard blondie would be a capable fill in. Just does'nt seem right though. But the show must go on.

Hmmm...you'd think the family could have the funeral a day later. I'm sure (as we do) they all know Ron's schedule. He IS his brother...family should understand Ron's dilemma when setting funeral date? His bandmates would probably want to be there to support him too. My bet is that this is an untrue rumor. all for one & one for all.

Just respect their decision. It's not all about the stones

they played a few shows in the 60's as a 4-piece on occasions when Brian was incapacitated

the Stu tribute gig at the 100 Club saw Simon Kirke of Bad Company deputize on drums for the first five songs or so because Charlie was stuck in traffic! wasnt a "public" show, though. Mickey Waller also stood in for Charlie at a show in Chatham,Kent in March 1964.

There were a few club shows in 1962 (and their first gig in 1963) where the band performed without a bassist, because they didnt have one at the time!

If this were to be the case, I wouldn't have a huge issue with it... and nobody could say that Ronnie should be anywhere but with his family this week.

Ronnie has long since earned his stripes as a fully fledged Stone... but Mick Keith & Charlie are [rightly or wrongly] probably perceived as being the three critical elements required to define the Rolling Stones. For that reason, and given the obvious alternative of unrescheduled cancellation, a show without Ronnie is viable and probably the right decision.

I'm sure all our sympathy is with Ronnie and his family at this time. We've all been there. We know how he's feeling.

oh..i do.....in fact I would completely understand postponing a show but...having recently helped plan a family funeral, we tried to make it on a day when every immediate family member could be there. that's all.

Thanks, Gazza, I knew you'd have the goods.

Yes, I also agree.

I guess Blondie can fill the part, but only to some extent.
Ron's soloing would be missed - I can't see Blondie doing that.^^
Keith would have to work more - everthing would get out of balance.
hope this doesn't happen.

Did Ron fly back to England right after the 2nd Beacon show?

why not? have you ever heard him solo? he's a tremendous guitarist - the Stones don't utilize a fraction of what he's capable of delivering....

Maybe they do :-)

Given everything else that's gone on lately, this doesn't really surprise me.

But it's still weird.

Not to get all naive and sentimental, but I was always kind of in agreement with the school of thought of "Well, they could still go on without Ronnie (if he were to croak)."

Now that they actually are, albeit for just one show, it seems very incomplete. It's interesting from a historical standpoint, but also kind of disturbing and mercenary.

Ah, well, what can you do? Sh*t happens.

Best to Ronnie, the Wood family, and now the Stones.

No, I haven't heard him on solos and yes, I believe he is a tremendous guitarist - but trying to play signature solos is not gonna work in such a short time of notice.
Its bound to go out of balance and irritate Mick & Keith.

I think I could handle it (Ronnie's spot for a night). In guitar terms, I can play a pentatonic scale, some blues, and a Chuck Berry lick or two, and can fake the country stuff. I can also get drunk with Keith and wave to the crowd. winking smiley

Condolences to the Wood family.

... hummm, wouldnt bother me,, a sneak preview of the road ahead,,

what would be interesting is the implied confines of blondies or whoevers playing, , that would be the artistic deliuma, , for there is no doubt in my mind the capabilities of many guitarists to expound woods roll and blondie is one of them.......
