141 stones recordings have never been done live

this number could have been updated recently, but at the time of counting(july 2006) it stands at 141.

thats out of a possible 351 stones releases.

amazingly then over 210 different songs have been played live by the stones.

that figure of songs played live only counts songs from their 'released' output

There have been about 100 unreleased covers played live too, if you include the most recent additions performed on the current tour (I actually make it 101 off the top of my head - 96 on the list in the attached link, plus Wichita Lineman, Bob Wills..., Learning the Game, Champagne and a reefer and El Paso - maybe I've missed one?). Many of the covers performed were in the 1962-63 period before the band had a record contract or wrote their own songs.

210 out of about 350 is only 60%, which is a shockingly low amount for a band who have played over 2,000 shows in 44 years

i see we got our info from the same site, great site that rocks off.

although 60% is low, dont think there is any other band who have played over 210 of thier released songs and over 100 of other unreleased songs during thier musical career.

thats a lot of notes, keys and riffs to remember.

I would say Dylan certainly has surpassed both of those figures by some distance. Neil Young and Springsteen too. Numerous other acts as well, possibly, although obviously as the 100 unreleased songs are pretty much all covers that would depend on whether said act started out (as the Stones did) as a covers band

Dylan, Young and Springsteen are more "singer/songwriter" types of artists with a folk tradition, so the comparison to the Stones isn't really "fair". Look at people like Aerosmith, Van Halen, The Who, Iggy Pop, etc. etc. and they've always had a lot of warhorses in their sets during most of their careers.

That said, I'd love it if the Stones mixed it up even more. But you can't expect them to spontaneously cough up another composition, like Ryan Adams is trying to do.

I've personally seen Springsteen perform in the neighborhood of 180-190 songs live, of which (without running it through my head to get the exact total) around 150 or so are released songs. There's still a bunch of released songs I've never seen, but a big difference with him, compared to the Stones is that he has played live almost every album track he's ever released (excluding his box set of unreleased songs, Tracks). I've seen every song from Born To Run and Born In the U.S.A played live and for another couple albums I'm only missing 1 song.

Yes. But WHY has he never done Property Of Jesus?
I could never understand that.

Because it's property of Jesus?
