Consensus@Cardinal Acts- not your own private taste now?

Hi lads & lassies!

I have been wondering about the Big Question:
Who are the actual "must-admit":s... ?

No big talking, but heres my suggestions, to be careful
(I am not saying these are all the cardinal acts, just some safe ones)

Elvis
Dylan
Beatles
Stones
Kinks
Who
Springsteen
Sex Pistols
Clash
Van Halen
U2
Wham! (!!!!)
INXS (???)
Nirvana
Jack White (??)

This is the rock list.
If reggae is defined as rock it would be a little different.

I dont want to go further at this point.
A tricky one could be Metallica: are they cardinal?
...Now why would I bring in Jerry Lee for an instance?
Well, how many Jerry Lee-songs can your younger cousins
sing-a-long around the bonfire?

I havent made up my mind if I mean hear on this very board, or...
But I believe that the deal would be among at least rudimentary
rock "know-how:ers" generally.
If we did mean here specifically; I could add Purple, Zepp'lin & Sabbath
and some bunches more of smokin' rock music, reggae & soul.

But I also wanna throw in these three aspects:
1) This has nothing to do with your own taste
2) This has nothing to do with ephemeral hypes; like,
who the @#$%& does remember Frankie Goes To Hollywood
(whome you once were forced to "like")now?
3) You could note there are ranking in the beginning of a bands career
("they will be the greatest, everybody think so"),
while they're breaking thru ("they are best") and after-evaluation.
I'd reckon there are band that are rised afterwards: like Zepp'lin
or for that matter Pistols I dont think the contemporaries were that
keen on them. This would be a balanced mix of all three, possibly
with a little more weight for the latter, retro-thing.

.. Now, who do you wanna add?
- ... Or, is my list just freaked out.. ?

But how well-known is he, Rooster?
Is it just me, or doesnt 98% of todays people just walk
around without a clue?
Remember: its not your own taste..
I would never put up the Who on such a list if it was...
And I know some dozens (hundreds?) of bands & artits I'd put up,
if I could decide for myself after ma ol' head.
Is he a classic.. ? Maybe..?

Agree on all but Allman, who I like but they are
strikingly unheard outside the USA imho.
Skynyrd is a bordeline case in this matter.
Creedence is a very obvious case of Cardinal rock act, a milestone.
Clapton is more a man people do talk about then actually listen to?

If we did discuss who moved the rock music forward; I'd add
Little Feat if we were talking Southern-ish music.

Back to consensus:
I believe I left out Jimi H too?

Some more suggestions from me: Buddy Holly, Simon & Garfunkel
and possibly Cohen (esp. pre-1974)...

...When we discuss the Doors, I come to think of Pistols...
They are acts many many people just dont stand = consensus?
