The studio recording was probably a Vox tube amp (AC30?) on very high volume, where the power amp distorts. That, or a fuzz box, or a combination of the two. Guitar was probably a Gibson Les Paul. Anyway, with your settings, use the bridge pickup, use some kind of "British" or "Marshall" or "Vox" or similar setting if that's some kind of modeling amp you got, and crank up the distortion, preferably with a Marshall kind of sound, and crank up the treble and midrange.

Les Paul Custom through Treble Booster through VOX AC-30.

At least, that's how Keith recorded it.

You said you had a tab, but here is another one, that I made myself several years ago, when I didn't think it was a waste of time to transcribe a solo like that note by note... And it's even crazier to actually attempt to play such an improvised spontaneous thing note by note. But I'm pretty sure the tab is 95% correct, and there's definitely nothing wrong about picking up the most important phrases, to get the hang of the thing and then improvise from there.

Keith's solo has never sounded better than it did on the studio version. I think he outplayed himself there. The version on Ya-Ya's is cool too, but nowhere near the studio version in speed, sharpness, uniqueness, etc.

Anyway, happy pluckin'!

FIRST SOLO:

When listening to the record these notes shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
The let ring-signs are simply just indicating that the note should be played
longer. The ending, the slide-down thing, could be anything...
This is probably best when serving as a basis to improvising the solo.

Sorry about the messy lines in the tab, but they'll line up if you display it with a fixed-width font, like Courier New.
