OT: Cohl arranges $50,000 meet and greets with Streisand

From Pollstar.com:

Babs For $50K
Updated 04:18 PDT Sat, Oct 14 2006

The confusion has cleared up: Barbra Streisand has indeed offered $50,000 meet-and-greets during her 20-city tour, with the money going to charity. Streisand will provide meet-and-greets where guests get "exclusive access," a group photo and four autographed souvenirs.

An October 6th notice in a Washington Post celebrity column broke the news to everyone - including Streisand's longtime publicist Dick Guttman and management company Martin Erlichman Associates. Neither had heard of the deal when the Post contacted them.

Publicist Ken Sunshine told the paper in an e-mail that there was "No truth whatsoever about paying for access to backstage."

Turns out, it was an agreement worked out directly between Babs and tour promoter Michael Cohl.

"We didn't know about it actually, and it's something Mr. Cohl decided to do," Guttman told Pollstar October 9th. "Apparently he knew some people who would be happy to make that kind of contribution and why discourage anybody who wants to give money to such worthy causes?"

The money will go to the Streisand Foundation, which contributes to several charitable causes. Guttman stressed that Streisand herself plans to contribute several million dollars to charities for global warming, education and women's health issues, and has already given $1 million to the William Jefferson Clinton Climate Initiative.

The Streisand Foundation has allocated $15 million to charity since its inception in 1986, Guttman said.

The top ticket for her Vegas show is $1,000.

Wonder if Cohl will book her for an outdoor stadium in December or January.

People, people who need frostbite treatment, are the luckiest people, on the tundra.

Q: How do you know God is telling you you have too much money?

A: (see topic title)

PS. Anyone know if Michael Cohl has a 666 somewhere on his scalp?

God's way of telling you that you have too much money is if Michael Cohl expresses an interest in working for you....... coz he is only interested in working with mega-rich rock/entertainment stars.

I really dislike how he has turned the Stones into a "package" that is just a cash-cow and big monetary feeding trough for him and his associates.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate that is arguably only down to him that we still get to see the Stones live, coz he can make the tours logistically and operationally viable.

BUT I truly wish they would dispense with the whole "show" vehicle and just play as a stripped-down straight-ahead rock n' roll band.

I don't begrudge the band members their millions (would love them myself, LOL), but just wish their was more respect for long-term fans and not us being seen as easy cash-flow.

Stones tickets $450
Streisand tickets $750-$1,000

Cohl is transforming into Don King by the day.

Most bands sell VIP packages nowadays.

Let's see, a group photo a/k/a: you, Babs and seven strangers in one group photo that you would be lucky if you got a copy of before years end or maybe a .jpg in a month or so.

Four autographed items a/k/a: stuff her assistant has been signing for years.

Most likley the person attending would have to sign a photo release so they do not try to commercialize the photo-op. Do a photoshop special and someone could put the Home Depot logo behind her and run it in the trades.
