I was there as well. It was my first stones show (there would be many more to come). They opened the tour there that year & we went to show 2. I remember it was very hot. The show started at 11am with George Thorogood, then Journey went on. The crowd was merciless to them & they didn't even do their full set. The stones went on around 4pm with Under my thumb. I would see them again in Philly at the vet 8 years later when they again opened the tour in Philly & again I went to the 2nd show.

This wednesday, 25 years later I'll be at giants stadium still seeing the Stones. I love it.

I was 18 when that tour started. In the pre-internet and pre-fanzine era (I didnt start buying IORR until a year or so later), we had to rely on the UK music press such as the NME, Melody Maker and Sounds for news. I remember keeping a scrapbook of press cuttings from that tour (I might even still have them somewhere). I remember the Melody Maker especially giving that tour opener blanket coverage. Their review of Journey was priceless and I still remember the quote to this day. "One word about Journey - and that word is awful. Steve Perry sang like a mortally wounded dog.."

I was 19 when that tour started. I went on to see them 3 more times on the tattoo you tour.. MSG, Meadowlands Arena & Syracuse Carrier Dome. I still remember the balloons that fell from the ceiling during the encore of satisfaction at the indoor shows on that tour.

Happy birthday and have fun at "Gnats" (as a friend of mine calls it, due to the fact that from the nosebleeds, thats what the band look like)

They kept Thorogood and J Geils Band for the European shows (and I think Black Uhuru were added for Wembley). My first and only show of the tour was the penultimate one of the tour, at Slane Castle. An unforgettable day and a life changing experience

With hindsight yeah the setlist did suck & I wasn't thrilled with them going on at 4 in the afternoon. But it WAS my 1st stones show so that made it special. I remember taking the long island railroad to penn station the night before to catch the amtrak to philly. I got a ticket for drinking a beer in public before I even got on the train! The train ride from NYC to Philly was a major party. It had started in boston & was filled with stones fans. JFK stadium was a toilet (I saw live aid there in 1985). Thank God by the time steel wheels came around in '89 they had condemned the place & the stones the vet.

I just couldn't get a proper job before I learned to walk in 83. What a society!

Journey would be the perfect opener for the Stones in 2006.
