Will The A Bigger Bang Tour Wind Up As Stones' Longest Tour Ever?

I'm thinking it will. The first date on this tour was either Aug. 10, 2005 if you count the club gig or Aug. 21, 2005 if you don't. It looks almost certain they will tour next summer, so if that runs thru the end of August the A Bigger Bang tour will have run a little over two years.

The Bridges To Babylon tour went from '97-'99, but they called the '99 portion No Security, so I suppose technically that is two different tours.

So tell us trivia buffs, will this be the Stones' longest tour ever? If so, what's their second longest tour, and how much longer will ABB be than that one?

1989/90 - 115 shows in 51 weeks (31/8/89 - 25/8/90), plus 1 warm up show
1994/95 - 134 shows in 57 weeks (1/8/94 - 30/8/95), plus 1 warm up show
1997/98/99 - 150 shows in 91 weeks (23/9/97 - 20/6/99), plus 2 warm up shows
(BTB 1997-98 was 105 shows in 51 weeks plus 2 warm ups, No Security in NAmerica was 34 shows, and Europe '99 was 11 shows)
2002/2003 - 117 shows in 62 weeks (3/9/02 - 9/11/03) plus 1 warm up

The current tour started on 21/8/05, and in 2005 they played 42 shows plus two warm up gigs (Juilliard in May and the Phoenix Club in August)

In 2006 they have played 15 shows in the USA (excluding the Superbowl), 5 in Japan, 2 in Argentina, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, 1 each in Puerto Rico, Canada, China and Brazil, and (barring any cancellations before next week) 19 in Europe, making it 51 in all by the time thay play Horsens on September 3rd.

Following that, there are 19 more shows so far confirmed for North America later in 2006, with maybe about 5 more to be announced. There are also rumours of return trips to South America and Asia in late 2005 or early 2006.

Even with a conservative estimate of 20 shows in Europe next summer (I personally find the rumour of 40 shows hard to comprehend, although it would be excellent!), they will probably have played in excess of 140 shows on this tour by the time its rumoured to wrap up next summer. It could well top the BTB/NO Security total by the time its over.

Thanks for the info, Gazza. So they've played 89 shows to date, with 4 more scheduled in Europe and 19 more in the fall. That's 112 shows, plus rumours of more in the fall and still more in 2007. 140 sounds like a good estimate for the number of shows by the time it all wraps up.

That would make it longer than the 134-show Voodoo Lounge tour in '94-95 but a bit shorter than the 150-show Bridges To Babylon/No Security tour in '97-'99. But if you don't count the 34 No Security shows it takes Bridges down to 116, making ABB the winner by a mile.

yeah but NS is a tour within a tour. And many of the features on No Security (the intro, some of the setlists) made it into the summer '99 leg too.

anoraks are so useful, and those with deep pockets are able to hold a lot of trivial information.

it's either this or complain about the setlist some more.

ah...but some of us have this info at our fingertips...

to paraphrase a great song lyric, "setlists...trivia...its just a click away...."

It doesn't matter if ABB is longer or more succesful than BtB.
Till now, Bridges/ Security was the superior tour:
Musically, the Stones were offering a much bigger part of their back catalogue in 1997-1999 and Keith was on fire, he also looked more rock'n'roll with grey hair and without beerbelly.

Is this current tour actually still A Bigger Bang tour???? This is the question one could ask first now that three (!) new songs are played each night.

Sorry I have to correct myself: two (!!) new ones tonight. Two out of 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beerbelly? More like vodkabelly.
