According to RS.com Van Morrison will be opening in Vancouver and Oakland.

@#$%& hell!

Oakland would be almost a 'home' gig for Van as he spent much of the late 60's/early 70s living in the Bay area, I think

(maybe he'll persuade the Stones to return the favour and play in his REAL hometown next year......)

Gazza, I was under the impression Van still lived in the Bay Area. Where is his primary residence these days?

well - like me, hes from Belfast (we actually went to the same school and grew up about 3 streets apart) - but he lives most of the time just outside Dublin, and has done for many years. I think he also has a place in London too and some property in Northern Ireland. His mother still lives here.

he's actually been back on this side of the pond for about the last 25 years or so, to the best of my knowledge

Van has a daughter Shana who still lives in Marin County north of S.F. She is a singer. Van still comes to S.F. often to visit.
Hope he does some oldies like Baby Please Don't Go

Van and Mick together on "Gloria" - Rock history!

Or maybe "And It Stoned Me".

"Moondance/Moon Is Up"?
"Brown Eyed/Indian Girl"?
"Domino/Lucky In Love"?
"I've Been Workin'/Let's Work"?

"Route 66" would be great -- Them's version is almost equal to the Stones'.

Van also did an outstanding version of "I Just Wanna Make Love To You". One more they have in common in their repertoires: "Bright Lights, Big City".

I only hope for the American fans of both Van Morrison and the Stones that there will be not the usual muddy, much too loud sound for the opener. For me that really spoiled the otherwise excellent gig of the Simple Minds at Stuttgart.

At present, Van Morrison as a performer is generally in top form. Even if you do not like his latest traditional country album his concerts are usually very good to great. The last album 'Magic time' was magnificient and counts among his best (I own all of his albums, and as I am not nostalgic or uncritical about him I can tell). What I admire most about Van is the fact that he never plays the same setlist twice. He always has a new mix of newer and older songs, and when I saw him last year only three out of 17 songs were older than five years, and nevertheless the concert was brilliant.

(Yes, I am a Rolling Stones setlist moaner, but I actually attended a concert recently).
