Place is empty

One of the best by Keith, ever.

Any detail of it shows how much the man is devoted to music and has taste.

It's emotional, its moving, it's full of contarasts - the great slow melody opposed to a very fast tempo, underlined by the fast chord changes)

And the music: it might be only rock and roll, but the harmonization of the chords is absolutely brillant (pay a little attention esp. to the bass notes played). That G# bass note in the E chord, how it shifts to the F minor ...

Once again I have to note how superbly it is recorded. It is not an easy job to mash together a piano and a guitar that well and put it on tape.

LAst but not least, as I noted some time before, this is the first time Jagger plays guitar on a song by Keith - a very simple slide line, but so dense with emotions.

Believe me, deep down these guys are still truly great musicians - too great to retire!

I love this song from A Bigger Bang. It is very well performed and arranged. Keith Richards sings beautiful and Jagger´s backing vocals is really moving. A Bigger Bang has brought us several new outstanding songs from Jagger/Richards and very well performed by this unique band called the Rolling Stones. This Place Is Empty is one of them, Laugh, I Nearly Died, Biggest Mistake, Oh, No Not You Again, and Back of My Hand are the others, I think. I am so grateful to be served this contemporary and classic stuff by a band that has had its share of illness and accidents lately. God bless the Rolling Stones!

TPIE...I was luckly enough to see Keith debut this song in Montreal, it was a real treat to hear it played live for the first time ever.

Gunnar's post above got me thinking.......it is too bad that the stones dropped Back of My Hand after the first leg of the North American tour in 2005. I heard it played in Ottawa and it was simply awesome to see the stones....originally a blues based band play a really cool 'old style' blues song that they recorded. I feel badly for the European fans that you did not get a chance to hear this gem off of ABB.
