Nice gimmick, although its hardly going to be like hearing a pristine recording tht you can listen to again and again - although according to the Stones 'management', the idea is to 'avoid bootlegging'..

yeah, THAT'll work!!

If the show runs for 120 mins the the whole gig will cost around $34 to listen on a dodgy phone line.

Can`t see how this will deter bootleggers

Although they are stopping the webcasts it cost me $20 to see 3 songs each gig from the Who tour and 3 FULL shows.

Excellent sound that I grabbed and,, after some EQ correction, burned to CD....can`t see that happening via a phone.

Well, we get the setlist almost in real time, it could be nice to hear them playing a rare song live - that would be my motivation to try it. I hope that he feed comes from the soundboard, so the quality would be good too smiling smiley

A crackly phonecast for $17 per show doesnt quite compare with the Who's CD/DVD "Encore series" when it comes to 'avoiding bootlegging', eh?

Can't believe someone is so naive and really believes it could avoid bootlegging...

Good quality over a telephone? You're WASTING your money, man...

It will most certainly be better than most of the cracked bootlegs we've had from the tour untill now. You know how you can actually talk to someone on the other side of the world as if he were standing next to you. The quality is not necessarily bad.

But indeed this should be bootlegger's imperium.

You can actually cut the cost per person by having multiple people dial in. Have recording equipment installed and you record directly from soundboard. And then some 20 7-minutes fragments need to be recomposed to one show of course... Let's make a callers rotation list.... winking smiley

This is not 'avoiding' bootlegging, it's making money of it. Very clever actually.

Although I think something will be done to block plans, like skipping two seconds every halve minutes "due to bad connection"...

They just posted the Cologne setlist, btw. I.e. the most recent one I presume.

have you ever listened to a concert down a phone line?

Yes I almost got strangled in wire.

You should either use a wireless, or not jump.

It will not be like if someone holds up the phone and lets you listen to it, no?
I guess it will be a controlled soundboard feed.
Anyway, another way for them to get some money.

Am I the only one who sees this a low point in the Stones credibility (if they keep any)??? Am I the only one who will feel embarrased if any of my friends manage to know this whole affair, as I'm going to be laughed at because my band are selling themselves through @#$%& mobile phones??? Am I the only one who finds this whole phone affair very sad??

Sad indeed...

Honesty, what is so sad or surprising about it?
They let you listen to some music on the phone and charge for it.
If they think they can make money they will always do it...

I find sad the fact of my friends being laughing at me if they find that the Stones are selling music by phone just as another @#$%& Crazy Frog, LOL!!

Worst idea ever. Sound should be terrible, but do I want to experience the "Geatest R&R Band in the World" with this little distorted gizmo attached to my ear?

This is really kind of pathetic. $2 a song? Over the phone? $2 for the entire show, maybe.

No, thank you!

I think the Who European tour webcast was something like $18. Which included all the backstage, pre-show stuff for free, plus access to about 15-20 minutes live broadcast of each show - and they webcasted about 3 or 4 of the shows in their entirety

Ok. We all know the Stones are a @#$%& rip-off. Stop acting surprised.

...unf'ucking beleivable...talk about pushing the limits...

So that's their answer to the critics that they're in it for the money! "You're tired of getting ripped off??...ok...wait ...here we go...we're gonna rip you off so more then...see...we can always do better!!"

Now that's taking the concept of cynicism to a whole new level!!

But hey, why not? A lot of you here are usually complaining about ticket prices, memberships prices and so on, but the boy just come up with a new trick to milk you for some more cash, and you jump right in!! I really can't understand that! Just how low do you have to be dragged before you say stop??

erm...I dont see any of the people who complain about the things youre talking about "jumping right in" to sign up for this

the Bank of the sacred bleeding Rolling Stones.com
located in I-dunno-where and next week they'd play my song on the phone
and all my dreams would come true
so I did....
