I would not say that the '88 solo tour versions of RS numbers are vastly superior, but they were not bad either. My major complaint concerning the '88 versions is the drumming. It's often rushed and give those Stones songs a rushed feel which does not always do them justice cause it takes the swing away that is always apparent in Charlie's drumming. And that swing is an essential part of Stones songs. Apart from that, those 1988 versions are not bad in my book, and the guitars are indeed powerful and dynamic. And that is not always the case nowadays.
In the end it comes down to the fact that the Stones without Keith are not the Stones.
