Is there any interviews where he gives his opinion on some contempary bands? I know his web site has a couple of q&a on this but it is a vague answer. I would love to know his opinion on the RHCP's, Pearl Jam,Green Day, Metalica, anything!

Guess Keith didn't really get it at first with the Black Crowes, IMHO they are currently the greatest live band on the planet.

INXS?
well, i only remember their airplayfriendly hits.
were the longplayers different?
their guitarwork in some songs was a bit "riffy".
i remember that when i once read in a music-magazine
that "they are the new rolling stones" it made me laugh.
the new rolling stones - where are they now...

Funny to read that he liked INXS. Ik like some of there stuff but it is a very pop sounding band. I didn't expect Keith to like it.

Cheers,

I guess what he said was, that they're okay...but not trailblazers. I like them a lot....espeically the first two albums...they probably upgraded their drugs after that ;-)

As to what happened to INXS:

Hmmm...INXS had a little problem called "death of leadsinger" ....and he was to INXS what Jagger is to Stones in the eyes of the general public ;-)(but I never understood the Stones comparisons either, other than Michael Hutchence stole his act from Jagger...but a lot of my friends like'em...and they like Stones too)

Hutchence was a great frontman- was a sad day when he died.
I saw them live afew times, and they always delivered.
Not everyone's cup of tea- but i miss them.
I wouldn't entertain the new line-up... once the frontman isn't around (another example being The Doors, or whatever they call themselves, these days)- that's it, as far as i'm concerned.

Just listen to 'Look What The Cat Dragged In'. That riff is heavily borrowed from INXS' Need You Tonight. And overall has a bit of a Suicide Blonde groove.

INXS were great. Even when they weren't popular anymore (I always was a big Elegantly Wasted fan).

I always like Baby Don't Cry, the video was a chromatic smorgasbord.

Legendary guitarist KEITH RICHARDS despises gangsta rap, and hopes it passes like another silly trend.

The veteran performer, known for his wild ways and legendary tolerance for substances, is convinced rap's roots lie with BO DIDDLEY and older Jamaican styles.

Richards, currently touring on the ROLLING STONES' FORTY LICKS bus, explains, "I think of (gangsta rap) like the hula hoop, as a fad. With the baseball caps and the baggy pants - I just got bored with what they were saying.

"And all those fingers pointing at you all the time! If I think about rap, which is basically talking over a beat, right, I think of Bo Diddley, to begin with, and then, where I really thought it reached masterpieces was in Jamaica with BIG YOUTH and I-ROY, when they were saying something and had some really incredible sounds.

"American rap has never really got on my radar screen, man. I mean, I know my brothers, right, and this is really not the best angle on them. They're all talking about the same thing and it's a wasted opportunity."

However, the MAIN OFFENDER album-maker concedes there are some interesting points in the gangsta culture.

He adds, "I don't really like to put a record on and listen to somebody talking to me, unless it's LENNY BRUCE or TONY HANCOCK.

"But I did get interested when they started shooting each other. That's more like it, y'know? Wipe each other out!"

I heard it was Keith the one that said that INXS were the new stones (I think it was in 1992)

I like some of INXS too. Listen Like Thieves is a really good song.

I read yesterday on that Johnny Depp is possibly going to play Michael Hutchence in a new movie, and that he wants his ex GF, Kate Moss to play Paula Yates. I think he would do a good job, he always does.

I bet the omit the broomstick rumor at the end (hehehe, get it, "at the end").

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Thanks T&A...that's some thought provoking stuff, huh?... so complicated and yet so simple. The essence of purity and yet has all the trappings of senseless debauchery. yessiree, that previous comment was perhaps my best.

I remember when the Steel Wheels tour was coming togther, Mick made sure to have Living Color open some shows because of his connection with them. I also remember Keith going out of his way to promote INXS but I've never known of a formal connection he would of had to them.

There was a quote from Keith some years back where he was ranting about rap like a grouchy old man and said something along the line of... "In our day, the Four Tops and Temptations weren't shooting each other".

Keith: Tellin' it like it is.

Does any of you know whether the whole story about the INXS frontman dying from autoerotic asphyxiation is just an urban legend?

It's still a legend as far as I know. The version I heard was that he had a belt around his neck and was impaled on a broom.

I love that Bob Geldorf is raising Paula and Michael's little daughter now. Think what you might of him for other reasons, but it takes a big man to be able to put everything else aside so that his kids can grow up together as a family. I respect him immensely for that.
